At Henry W. Moore School, I am developing an exploratory program of Spanish for students from Kindergarten to Fourth Grade. At this moment, in 2019, in our first year of instruction and of the development of curriculum, students from Kindergarten to Second Grade are instructed the same material. As students progress and move to a higher level, I will be developing the curriculum for the next grade.
Kindergarten, First Grade and Second Grade
The same applies to Third Graders and Fourth Graders during this first academic year.
Third Grade and Fourth Grade
The same applies to Fifth Graders and Sixth Graders.
Fifth Grade and Sixth Grade
We will be using Estella Gahala et al.'s !Avancemos! 1, a textbook that is used at most of the high schools in New Hampshire for Spanish 1. My goal is to cover with my Fifth Graders (and this year also with my Sixth Graders) the preliminary unit over the quarter of instruction, studying the following materials.
During the academic year 2019/2020, Seventh and Eighth Graders will start from zero, but my goal is that we finish at least the preliminary unit and two more double units, with two lessons each, a total of five lessons. This way, when my Seventh Graders move to Eighth Grade, we will start in Unit 3.1 and we will try to finish at least Unit 5.1. That would cover the conjugation of all the verbs, both regular and irregular, in the present simple of indicative, which would allow them to enter high school at the level of Spanish 2. Those students in Fifth Grade and Sixth Grade will make it to Seventh Grade and Eighth Grade at a higher level so we will be able to reach a higher level in future years. We will also be using the workbook associated with the textbook in order to master the grammatical structures and practice the different semantic fields/vocabulary on a regular basis.
Let's get to work.
