Letter from the Coordinator of Distance Learning and Volunteers

Dear Interested Volunteer,

Welcome to the Derry Center for Adult Studies! Thank you for visiting our site. My name is Kate Capistran, Coordinator of Distance Learning and Volunteers. I am very excited to begin working with you.

Students, teachers and staff would appreciate any tutoring services you could provide. We serve diverse students with a variety of needs in programs ranging from English as a Second Language to High School Diploma prep to Adult Basic Education and more.

Once enrolled as a tutor with the Derry Center for Adult Studies, it will be my goal to match you with the right student. Your strengths and interests will be considered when pairing you with an adult learner. I want to make sure you are able to have a successful working relationship and that you find your experience tutoring equally as rewarding and impactful as your tutee.

In true 2020 fashion, we do plan to follow COVID-19 protocol which restricts in-person interactions. Therefore, we intend to conduct tutoring sessions virtually using Zoom. Virtual meetings have become a normal part of many people’s educational, professional, and personal lives. We intend to continue that pattern during our tutoring sessions. I plan to assist all tutors with Zoom training as needed, so please do not let the virtual nature of our program deter you from volunteering.

If you are interested in volunteering to tutor an adult learner in the Derry or Salem communities, please complete the survey New Volunteer Survey

Again, I look forward to working with you.

Sincerely,

Kate
