During the month of September we spend a significant amount of time establishing the routines and expectations of First Grade.  This is important for a successful year full of fun and learning.

Under the "Helpful Links" tab there are many links to help answer common questions such as lunch menus, school district calendar, and other curriculum support.

Math-- In math we will start with a review of the many wonderful and important skills the students learned last year.  These foundations need to be mastered for future use with bigger numbers and word problems that will come as the year progresses.  The reviewed skills will be in counting to 100, skip counting, counting backwards, and counting forward when starting at any number.

Language Arts This will include phonics, printing/writing, and reading.

Reading--  In reading there will be many read-aloud books and activities to go with them.  To start the year we will have deep meaningful conversations about the texts verbally. Each read aloud will have skills we focus on to guide comprehension and understanding.   Eventually, the students will also have their own book bin to enjoy looking at books with a friend as well as on their own.

Phonics/Writing--  This month we will review letter formation as well as letter sounds.  It is important for these skills to be mastered for writing fluency.  We will also practice short vowels in cvc (consonant, vowel, consonant) words such as "mat".

Social Studies-- This month we will focus on being good citizens in our school community and classroom community.
