Photography Unit.
The locations I used in my photos included areas all around the school. The light photography was obviously taken in the Meche Theatre, as I was looking for a dark space. And, the rest of the photos were taken either in the Albright or the Main Building.
While creating the light photography, I had the works of Darren Pearson (an amazing photographer and light painter) in mind.
The photography unit tested the progression of students' knowledge as they acquired new skills using a professional photography camera.
The prompts called for the expression of control and informed regulation of the camera. Students were able to adjust the Aperture, Shutter, Image Sensor, Viewfinder, Digital LCD Display, Inbuilt Flash Mode, Dial, Shutter, ISO, and Exposure.
Pottery Unit.
The pottery unit exposed me to creating clay sculptures without the use of a pottery wheel. Through out this unit, I understood the importance of utilizing the tools around me, such as a slab roller, to be able to create a smooth, and well-made outcome. I understood the importance of using water to aid my clay molding and shaping.
One of the challenges I faced during the process of making my mug was the delicateness of handles that were not purely made in the conventional way. I faced and overcame my struggle through the usage of the 'slip and score' method and by calculating the weight and balance of my handle in order for it to ultimately become one with the rest of the mug.
My inspiration behind this piece was mimicking nature and bark for the pattern.
Artist Vision Board 1.26.23
The two artists I chose to research were Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn (1606-1669) and Cai Guo-Qiang (1957-20XX). The first artist I decided to learn about, Rembrandt, was one of whom I have heard of prior to the assignment. But, the new pick I decided to look into was Cai Guo-Qiang. I chose the second artist completely at random, and was pleasantly surprised with what I found. His architectural creations spark the creativity on others and each channel/depict their own message.
