As I enter my 23rd year of teaching and embark on my second year coaching high school cross country, it’s clear I’m no stranger to the sport of running. My journey began in childhood, where I fondly remember timing myself around the block with my parents and neighbors. In high school, I initially pursued track, but a coach’s encouragement led me to try cross country in 10th grade—a decision I'm grateful for today. Despite starting as a sprinter, I discovered a newfound ability to run longer distances and faster than I imagined possible. Throughout my years as a Sheboygan North Golden Raider, I cherished every moment on both the track and cross country teams.
Throughout college, running remained a constant in my life, serving as a means to maintain cardiovascular health, alleviate stress, and forge lasting friendships that endure to this day.
In my teaching career, I previously coached 7th and 8th grade track and cross country before taking a break to focus on raising my son, Jacob, who is now 10. Now, returning to my alma mater where I teach, and once ran, fills me with excitement as I look forward to sharing my passion for running with a new generation of high school students.
My objective as coach is to cultivate a diverse team. We embrace athletes of varying abilities and motivations. My aim is to support every athlete in achieving success, regardless of their personal goals. I aspire to foster a passion for running and nurture a strong team spirit. For me, the essence of this sport lies in its community, rather than merely in achievements or accolades. While medals and personal records are important, this sport offers enduring value as a lifelong pursuit.
