Through the eyes of former SASD Music Parents and Students…
If you care about teaching your students how to appreciate their community, value cultural heritage, work on long-term projects as a group, and pay back/support their school after they leave, music is the very last thing you should neglect. I am currently serving as a student missionary in Beirut, Lebanon, teaching mathematics in the classroom, but also piano and guitar lessons… every opportunity I get. (The) music program is bound to continue to produce ripples that will affect not only the Sheboygan community, but also across the country and the world.

I've grown older and my kids are all gone now, but there is nothing more awesome than knowing that Sheboygan still cranks out the talent! Thanks to all who make this part of the state so blessed by music!

Laden with an intense academic schedule including AP Calculus … choir provided me a creative outlet while simultaneously challenging my mind in a different way than all of my other classes. I made lifelong friends, contributed to the community, developed musical, dance, and interpersonal skills, and learned how to work well in a team. Sheboygan public schools’ music departments provided me with unforgettable and cherished memories, as well as important skills that will carry me throughout my whole life.

As a parent, I have been extremely grateful for the opportunity my daughter has had with SASD Band Program. We were able to have a flute provided through their financial program for all of the years she played.

The music program engages the students, encourages their growth in music, fosters the respect of music, and (students) learn self expression through music. There is a distinct difference in these music students.

Music education has meant so much to our family. In the elementary years with introduction to music, and opportunities through school chorus and the district 5th grade honors chorus, our daughter’s interest in singing was sparked. Further opportunities in middle school and high school showcased (students) singing talents, but also brought out the dedication of groups to work together, developing their leadership skills and abilities which will be life-long gifts.
We feel it is so important for all students to be given these musical opportunities. Music is a part of life at any age, in any situation, and it has been a wonderful family experience for us.
