Her love for finding happiness is questioned through her story of a person who is constantly searching for happiness, but somehow is always pulling it away from others. She wanted to make her character relatable to the readers so they could empathize with him, therefore giving the readers a view through his eyes.

Caitlyn Henning

Caitlyn Henning has been obsessed with Greek Mythology since she was a little kid, checking out countless books on Greek gods from every library she entered. Her love for it has not diminished over the years and now has made its way into her writing. While she and her villain, Agamemnon from the Iliad, do not have much in common, she has let her temper get the better of her at times and understands his desire for revenge, even if he is a bit extreme.

Atharva Naik

Atharva Naik has never been one to shy away from his culture. Whether it be traditions, languages, or gatherings, his background continues to resonate with him—even after living in multiple countries. Atharva’s story highlights his community while also recognizing the deep-rooted faults that exist within society.

Grant Schooling

Grant Schooling has a heart for service. He always supports small acts of kindness and the people behind them, even if those people are villains. Whether by serving his community at SAS or writing about a villain that serves hers, promoting a service spirit is his goal. Grant is always standing up for the little guy, the outcast with a pure heart, and the servant leader who is misunderstood. At the end of the day, he strives to bring out the best of what human nature has to offer.

Maya Shah McDaniel

Maya Shah McDaniel has always loved adventure, whether it be hiking, rock climbing, or sprinting through thunderstorms. This love of adventure attracts her to stories centered around a certain type of character: the fierce female. Inspired from this, Elara was born. Although Maya has never led a clan of warriors, she has led teams when she felt under-qualified and overwhelmed. Understanding that pressure allowed her to envision the slippery slope of paranoia and bad judgement that can turn the best of intentions into inadvertent villainy.

Anyu Ching

Anyu Ching is a true crime fanatic. Whether originating from her love of Agatha Christie novels or the endless childhood nights spent watching CSI: NY with her mother, she has always been intrigued by the psychology of the human mind. She's fascinated by the fact that ordinary people can be compelled to commit uncharacteristic actions. This has inspired countless morning bus rides, listening to Spotify's "True Crime" podcasts, unhealthy conversation starters, and, most recently, this story.

Erin Fix

Erin Fix is 100% evil. She is steal-your-pencils, walks-past-trash-on-the-ground (but-usually-goes-back-for-it-because-she-feels-bad) evil, and an omen of darkness worse than a black cat. She sometimes has to convince her friends and family of this fact, but knows they’ll come around eventually. Like the Snow Queen, Erin can get a little wrapped up in her own head sometimes, and absolutely hates the cold—but, like anyone else who’s grown up in Singapore, absolutely loves the snow. If one more person asks her about Elsa from Frozen, she refuses to be held responsible for her actions.

Lauren Fountain

Lauren Fountain, while no seductress herself, was obsessed with the book of Judges as a child. That’s a little geeky; she is aware. Confused by the intricacies of the characters, she now wonders the extent to which love and the manipulation of it can push you to reveal your weaknesses.

Michelle Johnson-Wang

Michelle Johnson-Wang has a casual obsession with morbidity and likes to torture herself with long Russian novels, carsickness, and high school theater. Though she loves all creatures, her favorite kingdom of life is Fungi because of their integral role in converting humans into dirt. Just like her countess, she also has a paralyzing fear of death. Fear Thy Nature not only pays homage to the king of creeps, Mr. Edgar Allan Poe, through style and form, but also by putting death in the forefront of your mind. Michelle is a strong believer that, through contemplating death, we conquer what it means to live with beauty and purpose.

Nandini Kuppa-Apte

Nandini Kuppa-Apte's favorite film as a child was Disney’s Snow White. However, Nandini never thought the evil queen was the true villain of the story—she was always more frightened by the face in the magic mirror. Nowadays, Nandini sees the evil queen’s actions as reflective of the self-image issues that women in the real world face every day.

Veronica Lee

Veronica Lee finds joy in the little pieces of home she has scattered throughout the globe. This blanket of connections has inspired in her a deep love and loyalty to the most important people in her life, and it could be said that she would go to any lengths to ensure their happiness. Although this has not made her paranoid enough to lock anyone in a remote tower, she does understand where the drive to do so could come from.

Rhea Pahuja

Rhea Pahuja has always enjoyed reading about gore. That's led her to come across many, many pieces with rather gory villains as their centrepiece, who are often, depending on how you see it, involved in cannibalism to some degree. While she does have her limits, she intended to write a gory cannibalism piece in a somewhat, er, tasteful manner. In her piece, she didn't exactly want to remove the gore to that extent, but seeing as how most of the other stories in the book are pretty gory, her piece is pretty toned down.

Shuvan Sasidharan

Shuvan Sasidharan believes the world has so much to offer, but there are many things that get overlooked. He enjoys bringing everything neglected into the light. In Greek mythology, one of the most unheard stories is that of the father of evil. Though Shuvan is no father of evil, nor does he hold a birthright of dominion, he does believe it is his duty to bring to light and give a voice to one of the most feared but overlooked villains that Greece has to offer.

Hannah Wald

Hannah Wald has been writing since she was in 5th grade. She is fascinated by Scandinavian culture, but, ironically, her story takes place in medieval Germany. The Witch from Hansel and Gretel is not a reflection of Hannah; she simply wanted to explore the horror genre with her piece. Hannah also loves fairytales, so her version of The Witch combines both horror and fairytales. Hannah's also passionate about art, the environment, and film.

Jack Weidner

Jack Weidner fears an uneventful existence. He would much rather make himself miserable for a good story instead of taking the safe, boring route. The thought of working at a desk job is one of Jack’s biggest nightmares; he imagines hell as an office, just with more torture. A product of his fears, Jack's villain is employed in hell and treats torture as if it's a boring office job.

Anna Blackwood

Anna Maria Blackwood was born and raised on a small island in the Caribbean. While she's not a blood native herself, she can still remember waking to the sound of wind hitting the shutters during a hurricane and the beat of steel pans during Carnival season. Anna also remembers the towering mocko jumbies that roamed the streets, wondering why people agreed to dance on stilts covered in heavy fabric just for Carnival. Though she appears to be a joyful optimist, Anna is a secret realist. She knows nothing lasts forever and tries to seize every moment as it happens. Anna has never exactly possessed another human being before, but sometimes she does feel like dancing into the night without a care in the world.

Ashlin Carlisle

Ashlin Carlisle is no psychotic murderous teenage boy herself, but she does thrive on competition. Whether it’s a tennis match or a card game, Ashlin always does all that she can to become victorious. There is nothing that motivates her more than winning, even if she only gets bragging rights. Her friends and family worry about her at times for her borderline unhealthy obsession with beating other people, but they stand by her anyway, which she is grateful for.

Emily Espiritu

Emily Espiritu chose Medusa for her villain because she's always had a strong love for Greek myths. Medusa is definitely one of her favorite myths, along with the stories of the Amazons, Persephone, and Icarus.

Zhirou Gao

Zhirou Gao moved to the metropolitan wilds of Singapore when she was five and has been living here ever since. She was born on Christmas, which is one reason she chose to write about Krampus, a Christmastime villain who brings naughty children to the underworld as Santa rewards them with gifts. Although Zhirou doesn't do that, she shares Krampus' dislike of Santa's fashion choices—honestly, Santa, the red is too much.

Kavin Kapoor

Kavin Kapoor is an aspiring filmmaker. Though no one gets any of his jokes, he was always drawn to stories that bring laughter and reflection because they communicate important messages in an engaging manner. He believes these texts are creative challenges, and he found himself writing about a villain whose ambiguous origins allowed for artistic liberties to spark conversation. In his 3 Little Pigs Satire, Kavin used the fairytale landscape as the backdrop for his own personal fears of misinformation and stereotypes. That way, he won't get in trouble for saying 'racist pig'.

Tia Remedios

Tia Remedios was raised in the tropics and has spent the majority of her life splashing in the ocean, building sandcastles, and battling heatwaves. She had a sunny childhood in the sweltering tropics of India and the dry heat of Australia. Ironically, however, she still suffers from a Vitamin D deficiency, so you’ll often find her painting or reading in a patch of sunlight.

Hannah Sun

Hannah Sun is definitely not a morning person, a betrayal to her last name. She considers herself productive at night, like her villain, although she does not drink human blood. Christmas is her favorite holiday, and Hannah enjoys long walks in the snow and shopping at holiday markets. While she may seem cold at first, Hannah cares deeply about family and friends. However, that care gets put aside when it comes to winning scavenger hunts for gingerbread.

Anjali Swarstad

Anjali Swarstad, who's afraid of waking up to a demon at three in the morning, doesn't get the best sleep. She shifts from pillow to pillow while imagining the Boogeyman plotting her death from just under her mattress. Although Anjali doesn't spend her time hiding in wardrobes as the Boogeyman does, she too takes a disliking to wailing infants. Anjali and the Boogeyman are both warm souls who daydream about threatening moments from their past.

Mina Troise

Mina Troise, though decidedly human, has always felt a kinship with mythology’s beastly oddities. Like her muse the Sphinx, she is often appalled by mankind’s arrogance, and her younger brother would agree that ‘wretched she-hawk’ is a fitting descriptor of her. As much as she may daydream about becoming a winged terror, she is limited by her mortal form, and with no murderous riddle to consume her, she occupies herself by reading, journalling, and feverishly scribbling in her sketchbook.

Angela Yandrofski

Angela Yandrofski has always been interested in the inner workings of Greek myth. Though she's no demigod, she has always loved hearing about the mythologies of the muses, or animals that don't exist in the real world. Through the story about the giant Antaeus, she gets to delve deeper into Greek myth and learn more about Ancient Greece's culture.

Arabella Garrison

Arabella Garrison is a creative and existential thinker who enjoys all things girlie. While overtly fun loving and carefree, she is also a very sensitive and empathic person. She loves children and watching classic films, and finds great joy in writing stories. Much of her writing is inspired by her passion for social advocacy and giving a voice to the disenfranchised. The villain in her story was created as a result of Arabella’s interest in raising awareness about substance abuse and the stigma around it.

Jay Kim

Jay Kim's bedtime stories consisted of both American and Korean classics. The Korean classics stuck, with their bold lessons, shaping his adolescent mind through bizarre storylines. One that was particularly memorable was the tale of two brothers, Heungbu and Nolbu. Their story over a struggle with greed, generosity, and gourds filled with gold was fascinating to a young Jay, and it still is. Although in the classic folktales Nolbu was overtly evil, could there be a more profound reason as to why he acted the way he did?

Qiao Li

Qiao Li is from China, and spent her childhood there, but moved to Singapore several years ago. In her free time, she likes to get involved in music, drawing, and dancing. She’s also extremely passionate about making vlogs and traveling. During vacations, she can be found binge-watching dramas and reality shows on her bed, if she is not sleeping. Her favorite beverage is bubble tea, and she cannot live without earphones. She chose to write about the White Bone Spirit because she was obsessed with Journey to the West when she was a little kid.

Lily Pan

Jiaqi (Lily) Pan loves creative writing and enjoys voicing her opinions on public issues. For Jiaqi, crime fiction books are her favorites. Though she couldn't be a detective herself, she often browses through crime-related news and pretends to be Sherlock Holmes, attempting to predict the outcomes of cases. However, the story of Sherlock Holmes isn't complete without his life-long opponent. Tracing back to one of the most significant scenes in Conan Doyle's series, Jiaqi's re-imagined the Valley of Fear to explore the story from a different perspective.

Viktoria Rosenkilde

Viktoria Rosenkilde, while no greek goddess herself, has admired greek mythology for a long time. The gods' personalities always seem to make her either hate or love them. Ares stood out to her because of how he is both confident and egotistical. Viktoria often wonders what it would be like to be a greek goddess, but, for now, she enjoys diving deeper into this world through Ares.

Radhika Srivastava

Radhika Srivastava is an Indian-American aspiring writer, who has an unhealthy obsession with the Bachelor and cult documentaries. She’s recently been writing about Ravana, the famous ten-headed demon from Indian mythology. They appear to be polar opposites, but underneath the surface, both Ravana and Radhika are hardworking and determined people, who define loyalty, which can land them in dangerous positions, because they will stop at nothing to protect the ones they love.

Virginia Tung

Virginia Tung has always been interested in unsolved mysteries with unclear motives. She spent years figuring out the origin of her name, only to find out she actually has nothing to do with the state of Virginia. Jack the Ripper was Virginia’s favorite serial killer because of his unusual murder patterns. She wondered: what made uteruses so fascinating? As an attempt to dig deep into Jack the Ripper’s mind, Virginia describes a possible motive in her story. Perhaps Jack the Ripper was not a psychopath, maybe there is an underlying explanation to his murders that no one has yet discovered.

Anushka Umap

Anushka Umap has always tried to understand the way different people think and what drives people's actions, while still holding on to the hope that people are good. Her love for fairytales has continued to grow as she sees the different sides of each story. This drew her towards understanding the motivation behind the sea witch taking away the voice for her favorite princess, the little mermaid. Although the sea witch is not representative of Anushka, she cannot help but wonder: how does one live with a drowned-out voice?

Ji woo Bae

Jiwoo Bae is a hopeless romantic. She has fallen time and time again for the way literature eloquently emulates emotions. She is fascinated by the ways irrational feelings are governed, biologically and psychologically. Her story operates on the basis that fear and love, governed by the same hormone, may be two sides of the same thing.

Christian Ivan Cambel

Christian Cambel, who goes by Ian, loves the intrigue of mysteries. He never shuts up about his admiration for Sherlock Holmes, and often boasts about his mimcry of the famed detective. Ian always found the character of the Napolean of Crime interesting, with so much more to explore. He claimed that if he can't find his own Moriarty, he would add his own voice to what he considers the most fascinating villain of his favorite mystery series.

Sara Fang

Sara Fang, an American-born Chinese, enjoys learning about her origins. Inspired by her parents to pursue this enjoyment, she chose to explore Chinese mythology because of the impact it had has on her growing up. Living abroad, Sara used this story as an opportunity to reconnect with her home.

Elizabeth Frey

Elizabeth Frey, an aspiring engineer, has always had a soft spot for fairytales and their villains. She may hide it under a warm smile, but she’s always been curious about whether villains truly consider themselves evil. While she has immense love for everyone in the little red dot that she has called home for the last 13 years, she has a secret joy for unveiling their true motivations. In her free time, she enjoys cuddling with her dog and baking -- who doesn't love gingerbread?

Luca Jumabhoy

Luca Jumabhoy prefers to stay away from the unforgiving grasslands of South Africa and with a slightly less harmful creature: a dog. Luca spends his days getting attacked by his dog while they are surrounded by trees and vast sheets of grass in the heart of Orchard, Singapore. He enjoys the wilderness and finds the idea of living off the land fascinating.

Seungeun Kim

Seungeun Kim has always held an interest in criminal behavioral psychology, sparked by the TV show Criminal Minds. Although she knew that she wanted her piece to be somewhat crime-related, she wasn't particularly drawn to a single well-known criminal. Thus, she created her original villain, a corrupt cop in the late 90's, to illustrate a criminal's point of view.

Sarah Lin

Sarah Lin, like most debaters, enjoys telling other people why they’re less correct than her. So, she decided to write a story informing the Ancient Greeks telling they weren’t quite correct in their telling of the myth of the Minotaur. Sarah isn’t stuck in a labyrinth without food at this current moment, but she and the Minotaur share the common trait of always being hungry. That said, Sarah snacks for joy; the Minotaur has a legitimate reason for his perpetual hunger.

Samuel Llamzon

Samuel Llamzon won’t exactly kidnap or drown a child, but he will go to extreme lengths to protect the people he loves. Whether it be his immediate family or his close friends, he values the people in his life above all, and is known to be by their sides whenever they need him.

Sanat Malik

Sanat Malik has always been fascinated by the manipulative psyche of genius criminals. Hoping to become a connoisseur of this delicate art, this up-and-coming author laces up in the shoes of a real-world chess grandmaster in his thrilling alternative history detailing his villain’s role in the foundations of the Cold War. Sanat also vies to be wiser than the predecessors of his villain's archetype, exploring the idea that an evil genius’ most pressing threat is their own ego. Beyond Rolls-Royces' and red carpets, Sanat hopes to use his newly-refined powers to make you enjoy his work!

Hritika Singh

Hritika Singh explores the creative realms by diving deeper into the confusing background of a tattered woman. She yearns to find an answer to disappointing behavior by digging into the haunted past of those who seem to have an inexplicable motive for themselves. She will continue investigating until she finds those movites.
