What a truly marvellous World Book Day we had this Thursday! From the moment the doors opened, it was clear this year was going to be unforgettable—especially as we welcomed a brand‑new Head Teacher for the day. With Mrs O’Hare mysteriously “away,” none other than the formidable Miss Trunchbull strode into school, striking fear (and a fair bit of laughter) into the hearts of pupils and staff alike. Unsurprisingly, the children were on their very best behaviour—after all, no one wanted to risk a trip to the legendary Chokey!
The day was filled with colour, creativity, and boundless enthusiasm. As always, our wonderful community of children and staff embraced the spirit of World Book Day wholeheartedly. Corridors, classrooms, and even the playground were bursting with beloved characters from across the literary world—from classic storybook heroes to modern favourites.
We were delighted to have our brilliant photographer, Kim Whitewood, with us to capture all the magic. Her photos will be shared in the coming weeks, and we can’t wait for you to see the joy, imagination, and effort that went into every costume.
A huge thank you to all our families for your support in preparing such fantastic outfits. Your creativity and commitment help make World Book Day one of the most special celebrations in our school calendar.
Here’s to another year of stories, imagination, and inspiring our children to love reading!
Warmest regards,
Nicola O’Hare
Head Teacher

We would like to share with our school community an inspiring challenge taking place this week involving Mr Pounds, the father of Stirling and Alfie.
Mr. Pounds, together with his brother and three other serving or recently ex‑military colleagues, is undertaking a 200km+ march across the Brecon Beacons in under 72 hours. This extraordinary effort is being carried out to raise money and awareness for urgently needed medical treatment for his young niece, Leni, who has been diagnosed with a rare and particularly aggressive form of childhood dementia known as Sanfilippo Syndrome.
The team will be facing some extremely tough conditions—especially during the final 24‑hour unsupported stretch of the challenge—and we know that messages of encouragement from our school would mean a great deal to them.
To help spur them on, we've put together a short video message of support from the school on our Instagram.
For anyone who would like to learn more about Leni’s story and the march taking place, the family has set up an Instagram page dedicated to raising awareness: @savingleni.
We know our school community will join us in sending strength, encouragement, and support to Pounds and the whole team as they take on this remarkable challenge.
Take a look at the fantastic progress on our new Early Years building! The roof is now on and the structure is fully watertight. With solar panels and windows due to be installed soon, the project remains right on schedule for completion over the summer holidays—just in time to welcome our new class!
World Downs Syndrome day is on Saturday 21st March.
This year Year 1 will be marking the occasion by taking part in the Downs Syndrome UK's Sunflower challenge by planting and growing sunflowers.
Sunflowers have been chosen because they represent everyone blooming in their own unique way. This day is all about celebrating individuality, kindness and inclusion - all qualities that are highly valued at Sarratt.
We would like to celebrate this as a whole school on Friday 20th March with everyone wearing bright and colourful socks. They can be odd socks so that we can have as many different socks in school as possible. We would like the whole school to 'rock your socks'
If you would like to donate to the Downs Syndrome UK charity please visit the website or scan the QR code on the poster which will also be displayed at the hatch in the school office.

We kindly ask parents not to park on the grass alongside the pavement on the route from school towards Dawes Lane. Unfortunately, this area has recently been damaged by deep tyre tracks.
Please note that this grass verge is owned by the Parish Council and is not public land, so we must ensure it is treated with care.
