Courage Compassion Creativity

Dear Families,

The Reception class have been fully embracing the cold snap and immersing themselves in their topic, 'Winter Wonderland', writing penguin poetry, sorting polar animals, making icebergs and investigating changing state. Scroll through the carousel below to see what they have been up to.

Hopefully the weather will warm up as we head into February next week. On 1st February, the school will be open as normal to all children. This is the first day of national strike action by the National Education Union. We are able to open at full capacity on this day and we will keep you informed regarding future planned days of industrial action.

As always, any questions about this or any other aspects of school life, please contact us.

Warmest regards,

Nicola O'Hare

Head of School

Gold Book

Congratulations to our Gold Book Entrants...

Reception:

Kaitlin and Ellie - watching you both immerse yourselves in our topic material, 'Antarctica and the Penguins', has been an inspiring experience. You are both writing and reading independently too - absolute super stars!

Year 1:

Fadii and Vitalii - we are honoured to have you both in our class and our school. You are enthusiastic, polite and friendly. Your knowledge of sounds grows daily, you are writing independently and are both maths stars! You are a joy to have!

Year 2:

Megan is in the Gold Book for consistently setting a good example for her peers, doing her best to be her best and ready to learn!

Year 3:

Amelia is in the Gold Book today for her incredible growth and confidence in swimming - making huge leaps and hitting milestones each week. Most importantly, she loves her swimming and never wants to exit the water!

Year 6:

Felix is one of our many WW2 experts in Year 6! He comes to every topic lesson with such enthusiasm and knowledge - he's teaching me a thing or two! Well done Felix, this passion for learning is so lovely to see!

Attendance

Message sent to all schools from the DFE this month:

UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) advice remains clear that children can continue to attend as normal unless they are unwell and have a high temperature. Further information on when a child is too ill for school or nursery is available. There is no requirement to be absent from school on a precautionary basis. School staff should continue to maintain their high expectations for face-to-face attendance.

Good attendance starts at primary school - children who have attendance of 97% or above achieve better outcomes in school and have the best opportunities in their adult life.

If you child misses school regularly, this will affect friendships as well as academic outcomes. It can be hard for a child who misses lots of school to form and maintain relationships with their classmates.

Being on time is also vital. Arriving late at school can be very disruptive for your child, their teacher and the other children in the class.

First Steps ED are offering 4 week ‘Skills for Carers’ workshops, they are full of practical tips, scenarios and case studies. This series is designed to help carers develop self-reflective, care-giving skills to role model confidence, compassion and courage. The aim is to offer attendees the knowledge and ability to be an important part of supporting a loved one.

Sessions are delivered online (via Zoom) over 4 weeks and following the first session, the team will close the group to ensure that the parents and carers in attendance can develop a positive peer group through the entire four-week programme. These courses are Free of Charge.

If your child or teenager is feeling low, anxious, or generally struggling, there are lots of services available to help them all year round. Please always encourage them to talk and ask for help if they need it.

The services listed on Just Talk’s webpage are all free and don’t need a professional referral, so they can be contacted directly by young people and/or their parents/carers. Services listed include Hertfordshire’s new With YOUth Digital Wellbeing Service for ages 5-18, parents and carers and many more, so please take a look: www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/mentalhealthsupportforhertsyoungpeople

Please ensure your child has an outdoor jacket everyday. We always aim to have the children outside as much as possible during playtime and lunchtime.

The climbing frames are out of bounds before and after school.

Communication

We have always prided ourselves on being an open and approachable school and believe that good communication with our families is important to the success of our school.

Class Whatsapp groups are a valuable platform for parents to share information, particularly for those families who are new to the school and have limited opportunities to interact in the playground. If you have any questions or concerns regarding any area of school life or would like to share important information regarding your child, we would ask you to speak to the school directly. There are very clear channels available for doing this, outlined on the parent information pages of our website. We are always here to listen and will endeavour to address any issues quickly and effectively.

Below is the link to the list of who to contact should you need any information about a specific area of school life. Should you wish to raise any questions or concerns directly regarding your child, the class teacher is always the first point of contact. If you have spoken to the class teacher but feel the issue is not resolved or should you require further information, then please make an appointment to see the Phase Leader – Mrs Whittaker for Reception and KS1 children and Mrs Dames for KS2 children.

Uniform Exchange

One of our wonderful parents has set up a Facebook page to exchange uniform items that are no longer needed. If your child has outgrown their uniform or you are looking for additional items then this is the place for you. click on the link below to go to the page. Please contact the school office for more details.
