Sarratt School Newsletter

Dear Parents and Carers,

This week we were given the wonderful news that all of our children will be returning back to school on Monday 8th March. We are really looking forward to this day (as I'm sure you all are too!). School is just not the same without everyone in.

You will have seen in the letter sent out yesterday, that there have been only a few small changes to the measures that were in place in autumn. These measures worked effectively in keeping our school fully open throughout the first term with no cases reported in the school. The changes we have put into place aim to enhance this further and keep families who enter the site as safe as possible. We now ask all adults entering the site through the school gates to wear a face covering. We have also shortened the time between pick-up slots at the end of the school day in order to avoid people gathering while waiting. It is therefore essential that families leave the site quickly and maintain a 2m distance wherever possible. The gazebo will be out of use before and after school along with the play equipment.

In school we will continue with our robust prevention measures such as enhanced cleaning, regular handwashing and consistent bubbles to ensure that we are doing everything possible for a safe and happy return to school. I'm sure some of the children may be feeling a little anxious about the return so I will be sending a video for them next week to help prepare them give them the best possible start. Please do make sure they continue to engage in the home learning programme next week to ensure that, when they return the following week, they are not falling behind in their knowledge and understanding of current topics and units of study.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns please do get in touch.

Thank you all again.

Take care and stay safe.

Warmest regards,

Mrs O'Hare

Gold Book

Reception

Our Reception entry is Stirling. This week Stirling has been working very hard with Mrs Lee in school. He has particularly shone in his creative activities. Here he is with his own artwork he created through careful mixing of powder paints to achieve a range of colours. Well done Stirling!

Year 1

The Year One gold book entry this week has to go to Amelia. Amelia has worked so hard in all her lessons. She listens so carefully and always tries her best. She is kind and helpful and very smiley too. She gets on well with her classmates and makes sure our classroom looks lovely at tidy up times. She is a real asset to Year One and a super role model to her peers.

Well done Amelia!

Year 2

This week's entry is Jessica who has been an absolute star. Jessica always tries her best and has been challenging herself, persevering with tasks, always striving to up level and improve her work - well done, keep it up!

Year 3

This week, Year Three have been completing our own twisted and unique versions of the traditional tale of Hansel and Gretel. Many pupils have completely turned the original on its head; with new settings, evil children instead of stepmothers, witches being turned into mice and many, many more alterations. We are all looking forward to creating a fully published and edited version this Friday.

I could quite honestly mention every child's name as all of their engagement, consistency and positivity has been remarkable!

I do really just want to highlight Jemma. She always joins us for every meeting with a huge smile. She also always adds her own unique twist on the set tasks... just two examples from this week. In guided reading we have been enjoying looking at The Barnabus Project by the Fan Brothers. The 'failed pets' in the story have to escape bell-jars, so Jemma made a stop-motion of her character Biger breaking out. Then the pupils had to design a map to help their protagonist escape, Jemma decided to get into character and act out the escape plan. Slipping past the "boss," and all. Amazingly unique and creative.

Year 4

The children have been asked to undertake an 'end of year assessment' for Spanish as we have completed the Year 3 curriculum.

It was a long quiz on google forms, with a maximum score of 44 so you can understand that it was a long assessment. There was listening, reading and writing in Spanish to do and thus, it was quite a challenge.

The following have all done the assessment and have been brilliant! The average score was 35 out of 44. AMAZING! Their enthusiasm, practise and willingness to have a go is a lesson for us all and continues to inspire me to further my own Spanish:

Raiyah, Danni, Sophie, Archie, Bella, Henry, Mrs Tarak, Jack, Ivy, Skye, Felix, Izzy, Theo, Fin, Eve, Rory and Jude.

Well done Year 4 for continuing to learn your Spanish! Bien Hecho!!!!

Year 5

Nell has been a superstar throughout our home learning. She attends every single lesson and is always enthusiastic to share her ideas. When completing work independently, I have been extremely impressed with her presentation and attention to detail. Here is an example of a presentation she made about the moon, complete with animations and a quiz at the end!

Year 6

Frankie, for persevering. On Monday she was struggling with the concept of ratio, but on her lesson with Mrs Kelly on Wednesday, she was working hard to compare the ratios of her horse riding rosettes and different items of clothing.

Gracie, for engaging fully in live lessons and always attending story time. She's trying really hard with her work (included a great answer for guided reading) and her handwriting in particular is really improving.

And finally, Izzy who wrote this outstanding letter in the role as Captain Walton's sister at the beginning of Frankenstein.

Dearest Robert,

I am pleased to hear that you have arrived near your final destination without cause to abandon the mission entirely. However, I am dismayed that you have been abruptly stopped in your tracks for danger of sinking the ship on the likely collision which would, consequently, cause your inevitable demise.

The first time I read your letter, I found myself denying that you had in fact met this unworldly creature and were simply attempting a career as an author writing children’s stories. But, and as I am your sister, I ought to know, that it is not in your nature to fantasise about such things, and as you clearly stated in one of your previous letters, you are more than likely to do so about things such as friendship or science. That, Robert, is how I came to the conclusion that you had truly acquainted yourself with a man who had chased a figure so terribly un-human for such an extensive distance that he very nearly froze to death.

My dear brother, if any man was worthy of your friendship, then, in my opinion, it would be him. The courage that person has shown, pursuing this - this - devil, over the ice is remarkable.

I wish you luck, Robert, may you fare well on your quest and find what you wish to find!

Forever yours, truly,

Your loving sister, Margaret.

Sarratt Playhouse

Here is a sneaky peak at our very own Sarratt School Playhouse (complete with private garden and painted in the school colours!) which appeared over the half term thanks to a very special and generous group of volunteers. The fabulous house, which was very kindly donated by Rachel and Emily Gould, was transported and erected by Mr O'Leary and a band of super dads and looks amazing in our old wildlife garden. A huge Sarratt Thank You (marshmallow clap, whoosh and popcorn!) to everyone involved in this - you are going to bring so much joy to our children.

Church News

With changes in lockdown and better weather, we pray that you will be able take on the next steps and look forward to better days.

This week will be from Sarratt via our Benifice website.

Our Church in Chipperfield continues to remain open for private prayer on Sundays (details from our website) and Sarratt Church Yard is open with the hope of snowdrops and early daffodils. We would encourage all to spend that moment this week to soak in the bird song, soak in the buds appearing and the lift on nature around that there is hope.

With every blessing

World Book Day

This year we will be celebrating this important day in our school calendar remotely. Our designated queen of all thing bookish and story (Mrs Serby) has put together a Google Site full of ideas and wonderful things to do. We have also teamed up with our partners, Chorleywood Bookshop, to bring some wonderful exclusives with top authors.

Please send in photos of how you are getting involved with this at home to share in next week's newsletter - whether it be through dressing up, sharing stories or evenhaving a go at writing your own.

Red Nose Day is back on Friday 19th March and this year it’s never felt more important to have some fun and get involved. The great news is, we will be able to all celebrate together in school! Come to school substituting 1 item of your school uniform for a red item of clothing (this could be anything from a jumper, a dress, a pair of socks or a hair accessory) to show your support.

We will not be asking for any donations to be brought into school but to be made directly to the charity via the website, phone or text.
