Sarratt School Newsletter

Dear Parents and Carers,

What a difference a little sunshine can make! It's been lovely to take learning outside and enjoying the Springtime warmth this week in school.

The weather is set to be perfect for Bella and Jack's Bake Sale in support of Ukraine. The goodies are in and looking delicious. Thank you to the caring pair who have planned and led this event - let's hope we get a good turn out!

Good luck to all those taking part in the SPA Quiz tonight. Unfortunately, the triumphant staff team of 2019 will not be defending their victory but the Governors are out in force to represent the school. Have fun everyone!

A huge congratulations to Mrs Ingram and the whole team at Sarratt Ducklings on achieving an Outstanding Ofsted Rating! A very well deserved outcome - well done team!

We are ending a wonderful term with a Sarratt Break the Rules Day next Friday (see further information below). This is a chance for children to break the norm and have some fun. As is usual for the last day of term, school will be ending at 2pm.

Have a lovely Mother's Day weekend and we look forward to seeing you all for our last week of Spring Term (an hour earlier on Monday morning!).

Warmest regards,

Nicola O'Hare

Head of School

Gold Book

Reception

This week Reception Gold Book goes to... the whole class!

They are all trying SO hard in our daily Phonics sessions - all participating enthusiastically, all listening so carefully to sounds to blend words, producing clear sounds, recalling the graphemes, remembering the rhymes to help write the letters etc...

We are impressed!

Year 1

This week's entry is Sienna. We are so proud of your progress Sienna. You have been practising your sounds which is evident in your reading and writing. Well done, Sienna.

Year 2

Our gold book entry this week is going to Ben. Ben has only been with s for a few weeks and during that time he has made steady and consistent progress. Ben loves joining in with our class discussions and is trying hard to record his work across several subjects.

Also - we have a tank of tadpoles courtesy of Ben and his family. We are loving watching them grow and develop. Thank you for bringing them in Ben!

Carry on the good progress Ben - you have had a fantastic start in our Year 2 class!

Year 3

This week, Year 3 have been acting! Not acting out … but performing! We have started a new English Topic of script writing, adapting a snippet from a book and then performing another classmate's play. Hollywood watch out! I hope there is enough room on Hollywood Boulevard for all our budding actors and script writers. I was blown away and called for encores, because of all of the students' confident, comical and clear performances. As well as their detailed scripts, which considered sound effects (SFX), actions and stage directions, allow for fellow students to follow and perform.

It was not a competition or the Oscars and so many performed brilliantly, however a few children in particular put their names' in lights and into our Gold Book this week. Therefore, Rupert has to be in our Gold Book for his superb and partially improvised performance of Paddington, as he learns our strange bathroom customs. Excellent performance and Rupert demonstrated all of Paddington's human qualities with light, gentle humour but also shook himself dry like a Peruvian spectacled bear would, a brilliant and subtle touch!

Next, Hollie is also in our Gold Book for her performance of Paddington with full: SFX's (electric toothbrushes, taps running and a poor drowning and gasping for air bear). Hollie again showed great comic timing but also has a fabulous understanding of the importance of pace and rhythm in her performance, really capturing the audience's attention.

We must also include two superb script writers who wrote such an imaginative script their actors were able to completely understand their vision. Therefore, Orla and Darcy are also in our Gold Book this week for their visionary interpretation of Paddington, Chapter 2: A Bear in Hot Water.

Whilst I am giving so many GB entries... I must also include Jude for a brilliant performance of the bumbling Mr Brown but also for Jude's excellent stage management skills, rearranging sets to other performers' liking, by gathering up chairs and tables. Well done Jude, this is an extremely important role in the theatre.

Congratulations to everyone for their amazing performances and scripts.

Year 4

This week, the whole of year 4 have to go into the Gold Book. Over the past few weeks they have been working tirelessly with Carlene to produce a fantastic dance for the Rickmansworth Dance Festival. Not only was their dance amazing during the performance, but their attitude towards the dance, their enthusiasm and their behaviour on the evening was exemplary. We are all very proud of them.

If you would like to see an additional, special performance, we will be sharing with everyone on Monday at 15:00 in the playground. We hope to see you there!

Year 5

Izzy has previously been entered into the gold book for her manners and kindness towards others. I have to say, she could be entered into the gold book every week for these reasons. However, this time I wanted to celebrate the pride she takes in her work. Izzy is so focused and enjoys being creative with her ideas. In almost every English lesson you will find her scanning a thesaurus to extend her vocabulary. As a result, it is often shared with the rest of the class.

Year 6

Our first entry into Gold Book this week is Brooke. Brooke went above and beyond this week with some extra home learning- a presentation about the Victorians. She's demonstrated some key skills showing her to be a keen historian, well done Brooke!

Our second entry is our excellent Victorian inventors: Sumar, Oscar, Sienna and Ria, who pitched their invention, the Transatlantic Steamship, as being the best invention of the Victorian era. Their presentation was clear, well-researched and rehearsed. A fantastic effort!

Covid Updates

Updates to DfE guidance following the Prime Minister’s announcement

On Monday 21 February, the Prime Minister set out the next phase of the government’s COVID-19 response ‘Living with COVID-19’. COVID-19 continues to be a virus that we learn to live with and the imperative to reduce the disruption to children and young people’s education remains.

For the education and childcare sectors, the main changes announced include:

  • changes to self-isolation and daily testing of close contacts

  • changes to testing in education and childcare settings and children’s social care services

For advice on contact tracing, self-isolation and the actions people with symptoms or confirmed COVID-19 should take, see the new UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) guidance.

The Chess Valley Primary Learning Trust has updated it's policy in line with the official guidance. You have received a copy via Parentmail.

Policy in Summary:

  • Follow all UKHSA advice

  • Anyone with Covid symptoms should stay at home and take a PCR test

  • Anyone with a positive test should be required to stay at home for ten days or until they test negative for two consecutive days from day five, whichever is the sooner.
