Sarratt School Newsletter

Courage Compassion Creativity

Dear Families,

We've had a wonderful week in School - the children have settled into new classes and routines so quickly. Summer seems a very distant memory.

We have also been looking forward and getting plans in place for the coming term and year. Its going to be full steam ahead this year with all school events set to return - Christmas Fair, Nativity, Musical Performances, Panto and more. Keep looking out as we release the dates in the coming weeks.

Thank you to all our parents who have been attending the various curriculum workshops this term. It's wonderful to be able to have families back in school to find out more about what happens in the classroom.

Speaking of finding out more, I have added a new feature to the Newsletter, Spotted at Sarratt. I've been out and about in classrooms and the playground, capturing moments to share with you all. I hope you enjoy.

Have a lovely weekend.

Warmest regards,

Nicola O'Hare

Head of School

Gold Book

Congratulations to our Gold Book Entries who have all made a wonderful start to a new school year!

Year 1:

Lilia is a joy to teach. She always tries her hardest, persevering even when the challenge is initially tough. Fabulous start to KS1!

Year 2:

Sienna has worked her very best in every single lesson. She is an excellent role model for the class. Well done sienna!

Year 4:

Dylan has shown himself to be very good at discussion during RE. He has also been a good example in year 4, having a positive attitude and just getting on with the work at hand. He has impressed both Mrs Serby and Mrs Tarak with the work he has been producing.

Year 5:

Massimo has really impressed Mrs Lamb so far this year. She wrote, 'it has been wonderful getting to know him. He has been kind, calm and considerate to others at all times.' As a bonus, he has also produced some beautiful writing.

Year 6:

Jude is in Gold Book this week for his positive attitude towards his work. He has produced very neat work in both English and Maths. He has also really grasped new concepts in maths, finding ways to make calculations more efficient. Thank you for being a kind and mature member of Y6!

Spotted in Sarratt...

A new weekly feature capturing some images from in school. This week, I spotted a pre-historic crime scene in Year 3, clay Scarab Beetles in Year 5, fun with Bee Bots in Coding Club and a new school Goal Keeper training with Year 6 at Lunchtime!

Important Reminders

Make sure your child comes to school with a water bottle each day. Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are provided with a snack in the morning. Children in KS2 can bring a fruit or vegetable snack to school for playtime.

If your child needs additional medication, please fill in this form and drop it into the school office.

Please ensure your child has an outdoor jacket everyday. We always aim to have the children outside as much as possible during playtime and lunchtime.

On warmer days, please ensure your child comes in prepared with a hat and sun cream.

The climbing frames are out of bounds before and after school.

Communication

We have always prided ourselves on being an open and approachable school and believe that good communication with our families is important to the success of our school.

Class Whatsapp groups are a valuable platform for parents to share information, particularly for those families who are new to the school and have limited opportunities to interact in the playground. If you have any questions or concerns regarding any area of school life or would like to share important information regarding your child, we would ask you to speak to the school directly. There are very clear channels available for doing this, outlined on the parent information pages of our website. We are always here to listen and will endeavour to address any issues quickly and effectively.

Below is the link to the list of who to contact should you need any information about a specific area of school life. Should you wish to raise any questions or concerns directly regarding your child, the class teacher is always the first point of contact. If you have spoken to the class teacher but feel the issue is not resolved or should you require further information, then please make an appointment to see the Phase Leader – Mrs Whittaker for Reception and KS1 children and Mrs Dames for KS2 children.

Wellbeing and Family Support

We can all have a wobble from time to time and our children are no different. Changes in routines, uncertainty and tackling new challenges can knock confidence and trigger anxious feelings. At school, our staff are here to support. We have a designated staff leading strategies and programmes to allow our children to thrive at school.

This week, our Year 6 children started a programme of learning with Watford FC called Positive Minds. This combines classroom and practical-based activities to engage and increase the awareness around the topic of mental health.

In this section of the newsletter we also share useful links and information from external agencies and our local specialist support team.

Uniform Exchange

One of our wonderful parents has set up a facebook page to exchange uniform items that are no longer needed. If your child has outgrown their uniform or you are looking for additional items then this is the place for you. click on the link below to go to the page.
