Sarratt School Newsletter
Courage Compassion Creativity
Dear Families,
We've got wonderful news to share with you this week! Two weeks ago our school had our SIAMs Inspection - The Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools. A SIAMs Inspection explores ways in which each school’s theologically rooted Christian vision drives its work and enables the school to live up to its foundation as a Church school. We are delighted to share the Report from the Inspection which highlighted the following strengths in our school:
• Pupils and adults embody ‘The Sarratt Way.’ This vision inspires a deeply embedded, nurturing culture where ‘we treat others the way we would like to be treated’. As a result, pupils and adults feel loved for their uniqueness as individuals.
• Strong leadership has developed a dedicated staff team who model energy, hope and devotion to the power of a flourishing school community. This generates a passion for equity, diversity and inclusion, which is at the heart of the school’s work. Pupils are inspired to work together to 'do our best to be our best'.
• Active story telling approaches inspire children to retain stories from the Bible. This engages pupils effectively in the meaning and interpretation of key biblical texts.
• Collective worship is closely linked to the school’s vision and values. It is clearly planned and organised. Partnerships with local clergy create opportunities to take worship into the local community and allow the Christian vison to impact beyond the school boundary.
It's wonderful to read such positive external validation of our school - the sentence, 'This is a school with a ‘big heart,’ shone out for me! To read more, please click on the button below to access the full report.
A huge thank you to our whole community - children, families, staff and governors for making our school shine!
Warmest regards,
Nicola O'Hare

There will also be a non-uniform day on Friday 22nd November in exchange for a bottle/chocolates for the tombola.
Looking for a quick half term project or a way to use up a glut of Halloween sweets?! After the huge success of last year, Jazzy Jars for the Christmas Fair are back!
1. Fill a clean, empty jam jar with something fun; it could be anything you like, maybe something yummy to eat (NO NUTS please), some fab stationery, some haberdashery or the ingredients to make something. Just do an internet search on ‘jazzy jars’ to get lots of inspiration. You can enter more than one if you are feeling productive!
2. Decorate your jar however you like.
3. Write/attach your house name (colour group for reception) to the jar.
4. Bring your Jazzy Jam Jars into the school office by Friday 8th November ready to be counted.

As a fun half-term activity, I am inviting pupils from KS1 and KS2 across South West Hertfordshire to submit a design for my Christmas Card this year. This design can be portrait or landscape, and should be submitted as a pdf to my email address (Gagan.mohindra.mp@parliament.uk) (teachers you may have to help) with the subject line [Pupil Name, School, Christmas Card Design]. Herts CC Parent Survey
Sent on behalf of Hero Slinn, Director for Inclusion & Skills:
Dear All,
Herts Parent Carer Involvement (HPCI) are running their annual survey, which aims to gather valuable feedback from parent carers of children and young people with SEND across Hertfordshire.
We recognise that not all families will be feeling the impact of the improvement work that is underway, however we also recognise that there are so many people working tirelessly to improve outcomes for children and young people with SEND and this survey also seeks to capture feedback on the support provided by schools.
As a key partner in delivering SEND improvements across the partnership, we are keen to capture and celebrate the amazing work that you are doing. To ensure a balanced view is captured in the survey, we kindly ask for your assistance in sharing the survey with parent carers that are in contact with any SEND services. It is equally important that we are also hearing from those who are having a positive experience as their feedback will help us to learn and build on these success stories.
Below is some suggested text that you may wish to use:
Herts Parent Carer Involvement, the independent parent carer forum for Hertfordshire, has asked us to share their annual survey with you. They want to hear from Hertfordshire parent carers of children and young people (age 0-25) with any Special Educational Need and/or Disability. Your child doesn't need to have a diagnosis or EHCP for you to take part. The survey is open until Sunday 3 November and can be accessed here: http://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/HPCISurvey2024
If you would like to know more about HPCI or to become a member, you can visit their website: www.hertsparentcarers.org.uk or call 07840 360 245.
Thank you for your support in disseminating this survey, as well as your continued hard work and dedication.
Best Wishes,
Hero Slinn

Important Reminders
Hair
Long Hair (below shoulder length) must be tied up for school (i.e. in a ponytail, bun or plait). Any hair decoration must be discrete and in school colours.
Jewellery
Jewellery is limited to a watch and small ear studs only. Earrings must be removed on PE days.
Make-up
Make-up and Nail Varnish are not permitted.
Punctuality
The beginning of the day is an important time in school. Please ensure that children are in school by 8.50am when the gates close.
Snacks and Water
Make sure your child comes to school with a water bottle each day. Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are provided with a snack in the morning. Children in KS2 can bring a fruit or vegetable snack to school for playtime.
Medication
If your child needs additional medication, please fill in this form and drop it into the school office.
Request for school to administer medication form
Health and Safety
The climbing frames are out of bounds before and after school. When entering the school via the main gates, please use the path to the side of the carpark. Please park considerately and turn-engines off when dropping off and picking up.
We would like to politely remind all to not walk through the school staff car park at any time. For safety reasons please use the designated side pavement, it is a working car park and can therefore be potentially dangerous
Please do not let children run or play in the school car park.
Uniform
On non-PE days, children must come to school in full uniform including black school shoes or boots (not UGG Boots). On wet/ icy days, children can bring a change of footwear for school if necessary. Please ensure your child has an outdoor jacket everyday. We always aim to have the children outside as much as possible during playtime and lunchtime.
School Shoes
We have noticed an increasing number of children wearing trainers to school. While we do permit shoe style all black trainers as we recognise these can be a more affordable option, we do not permit black trainers such as baseball or running trainers. See images below for clarification.
Online Safety
Online Safety is an important part of keeping children safe from harm.
We have security measures in place in school, which are constantly reviewed, to help safeguard pupils from any potential dangers. Online Safety is taught to all pupils explaining and demonstrating how to stay safe and behave appropriately online.
We can only be successful in keeping children safe online if we work with you to ensure the e-safety message is consistent. Your help is needed to talk to your children about how they can keep safe and behave appropriately online.
Children are accessing a greater amount of content online, than we were ever exposed to in our childhood. Children can accidently or deliberately be exposed to unwanted or unpleasant content or comments online and there are steps you can take at home to minimise this risk.
The NSPCC provide guidance on how to protect children online for parents including setting controls, talking to your child and how to report concerns.

Attendance
New Statutory Guidance regarding unauthorised absence and Penalty Notice Fines.
Good attendance starts at primary school - children who have attendance of 97% or above achieve better outcomes in school and have the best opportunities in their adult life.
If your child misses school regularly, this will affect friendships as well as academic outcomes. It can be hard for a child who misses lots of school to form and maintain relationships with their classmates.
Being on time is also vital. Arriving late at school can be very disruptive for your child, their teacher and the other children in the class.
Attend Today, Achieve Tomorrow!
Communication
We have always prided ourselves on being an open and approachable school and believe that good communication with our families is important to the success of our school.
Class Whatsapp groups are a valuable platform for parents to share information, particularly for those families who are new to the school and have limited opportunities to interact in the playground. If you have any questions or concerns regarding any area of school life or would like to share important information regarding your child, we would ask you to speak to the school directly. There are very clear channels available for doing this, outlined on the parent information pages of our website. We are always here to listen and will endeavour to address any issues quickly and effectively.
Below is the link to the list of who to contact should you need any information about a specific area of school life. Should you wish to raise any questions or concerns directly regarding your child, the class teacher is always the first point of contact. If you have spoken to the class teacher but feel the issue is not resolved or should you require further information, then please make an appointment to see the Phase Leader – Mrs Whittaker for Reception and KS1 children and Mrs Serby for KS2 children.
