Sarratt School Summer Newsletter

Dear Parents and Carers,

I can't believe it is Summer already - time seems to have flown this year! This year, it has been fantastic to see the return of so many events and experiences that make Primary School such a wonderful place to be - visits, sports days, productions... This year, they have seemed even more magical and being able to have you share in them has been extra special for everyone.

I would like to say a huge thank you to every member of our Sarratt Community - staff, families, governors and, most importantly, children. You all help to make our school a happy and special place to be.

A big thank you also for your generosity and kind words towards myself and the staff over the past couple of days - it is never expected and always really appreciated.

I hope you all have a fabulous and well-deserved break and I look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday 6th September.

Warmest regards,

Nicola O'Hare

Head of School

Good Bye Year 6

Year 6, I want to say a big heartfelt thank you! You have been wonderful role models, considerate and courteous till the very end. You have achieved so much in your time here but it is your friendship, positivity and inclusiveness that I will remember most about you. I wish you the very best of luck in everything you do - I know you will be amazing!

A few (more) goodbyes...

We have a few of our wonderful team sadly leaving us this Summer...

Mrs Adams

Mrs Adams is leaving us after 8 years of dedicated service. She will be retiring this summer as a member of staff but, fortunately, we will be welcoming her back in the autumn term as a volunteer.

Mrs Prashad

Miss Prashad, who has been with the school 3 years as a valued member of our Midday Supervisory Team (though she has been involved in the school for a few more as a dedicated member of Sunset and Sunrise Club), will be leaving us to start a new career at a local nursery. We wish her the very best of luck in this new adventure. Thank you Mrs Prashad!

Miss Stowe

Finally, we bid a fond farewell (and bon voyage!) to Miss Stowe. She's off to start an exciting new chapter with her family in Norfolk. Miss Stowe has been with the school 8 years and been a pivotal part in the school's journey of improvement. Most importantly, she has given our children the very best, most positive start to their school life and for that we are truly thankful. Good luck Miss Stowe - we will all really miss you!

Your Feedback Matters

Thank you to everyone who contributed to our recent Parent Voice Survey. Here are some of your comments along with some of the actions we have and will put in place to address what we could do better.

Years 3 & 4 Day Out

On Tuesday, Years 3 & 4 had a special day in Sarratt. Firstly, we visited Holy Cross Church were we sang and shared the story of Joseph. Year 3 then had a chance to explore the inside of the church, whilst Year 4 explored the churchyard and thought about the legacy they leave behind in Year 4 and can build in Year 5.

After our picnic lunch, we headed off to Mrs Roe's Woodland Garden where we explored the nature available to us in a scavanger hunt before undertaking an art challenge; to paint what we could see using a free, loose hand. The children were asked to paint standing up, using a long handled paintbrush.

We would like to say a very big thank you to Holy Cross and Mrs Roe for letting us use their spaces for our learning and we look forward to returning again next year.

Summer Reading Challenge

Organised by charity The Reading Agency (www.readingagency.org.uk) and the UK public library network since 1999, the Summer Reading Challenge is the UK’s biggest annual reading promotion for children aged 4 to 11.

The Summer Reading Challenge combines FREE access to books with fun, creative activities during the summer holidays. Throughout the Challenge, library staff and young volunteers support the children, helping them to discover new authors and illustrators and to explore a wide range of different types of books and ways of reading.

How the Challenge works

Children sign up through their local library and receive a Gadgeteers collector poster.

Children set a reading goal and borrow and read library books of their own choice during the summer, collecting special stickers to complete their poster and extra incentives along the way.

Library staff and volunteers are on hand to advise and run family-friendly activities.

Children who complete the Summer Reading Challenge are presented with a certificate and/or a medal.

The official Challenge website hosts digital rewards, author videos, games and more for children to enjoy all summer: www.summerreadingchallenge.org.uk

When you return to school in September, make sure you bring your medals / certificates in to share with your class teacher.

Good Luck!

SPA News

It was lovely to see all the children having such a great time at Wednesday’s discos! We raised nearly £1000! This will all go back into providing the children with some exciting extra-curricular activities next year.

A huge thank you to all the parents who helped out to make things run smoothly and to Mrs O’Hare for her impromptu children’s entertainer appearance when the power went off!
