Courage Compassion Creativity
As we draw to a close on what has certainly been a very wet first half term, it’s been wonderful to see our children shining brightly in school. Their progress, resilience and enthusiasm have continued to stand out, whatever the weather has thrown at us. See below for a few highlights of the week from some of our classes...
Along with the spring weather - there is so much to look forward to next term, with World Book Day, Easter and Science Week all on the horizon. We hope everyone enjoys a restful half‑term break, and we look forward to welcoming you back for Spring Term 2 on Monday 23rd February.
Warmest regards,
Nicola O’Hare
Head Teacher

Stanley is so helpful in class, always asking if there is a job that needs doing. He is also a super mathematician and writer - pushing himself to do his best!
Sol is making a real effort to be engaged in lessons and it is showing in the work he produces. He brin joy and humour to Year 3 - he is the life and Sol of the classroom!
A huge well done to our Year 4 pupils for their fantastic participation in this year’s Partnership Dance Festival. Thank you to all staff involved in preparing and supporting the children—your hard work truly shone through in their confident and joyful performance.
As a partnership, we are always proud to be part of such an inclusive event, one that encourages children to build confidence, feel excitement, and deepen their engagement with dance. Across the three evenings, the festival showcased 26 performances from 23 schools, involving approximately 635 young dancers and an audience of around 900 spectators. Year 4 represented our school brilliantly, performing with energy, enthusiasm and a real sense of pride.
The children were especially excited to perform to music from the recent West End production of Paddington. This added a wonderful sense of fun and storytelling to their routine, and Year 4 embraced the character and charm of the show beautifully in their movements.
It was wonderful to see such a strong sense of community, with families, teachers and pupils from across Three Rivers and Watford coming together to celebrate creativity and the arts. Our Year 4 children should feel incredibly proud of themselves for contributing to such a vibrant and memorable event.
Well done to everyone involved—we look forward to seeing Year 4 continue to shine in future events.
Year 3 have been busy developing their science enquiry skills through a hands‑on investigation into how well different types of soil absorb water. The children tested peat soil, chalky soil, sandy soil and clay soil, carefully measuring equal amounts of water for each sample to ensure the test was fair. They made thoughtful predictions before starting, then carried out accurate measuring and careful observations as the water filtered through each soil type. Managing variables—such as using the same volume of water, identical containers and equal amounts of soil—helped them draw reliable conclusions about which soils absorbed water quickly and which held onto it for longer. The class showed fantastic curiosity and teamwork throughout, and their growing confidence as young scientists was wonderful to see.
After braving the chilly weather to explore the signs of winter, Reception children headed back inside to enjoy some delicious pancakes with a selection of tasty toppings — what a treat! They have also loved singing the pancake song this week, which remains one of my favourite Early Years classics.
Year 1 rounded off their Dinosaur topic with some brilliant cookery, baking and decorating their own delicious (and rather ferocious!) dinosaur biscuits. The children put their maths measuring skills to excellent use and drew on their design technology learning to create the perfect show‑stopping bakes.

We kindly ask parents not to park on the grass alongside the pavement on the route from school towards Dawes Lane. Unfortunately, this area has recently been damaged by deep tyre tracks.
Please note that this grass verge is owned by the Parish Council and is not public land, so we must ensure it is treated with care.
Thank you for your support in helping us look after our local environment.
The school’s priority during severe weather is the safety of pupils, staff, and families. Decisions about closing the school are made carefully, taking into account road safety and emergency access, conditions on the school site, staffing levels, travel risks for families, and advice from local authorities and emergency services.
The Headteacher will decide on school closure as soon as possible (by 7:00am or the night before if conditions are clear) and inform parents/carers via the Arbor school messaging system.
What parents need to know
Severe weather may lead to later start times or early finishes. This will be communicated in advance via Arbor.
Breakfast club, after‑school club, and external clubs are cancelled during closures, so families should have alternative childcare plans ready.
Home learning will be provided through Google Classroom (Year 1 to Year 6). Children will meet with the teacher online via Google Meet at 9am. The teacher will set learning tasks to be completed through the day.
Please allow time for messages to come through before calling the school.
Phone calls may not be answered if staff cannot reach the building, though an out‑of‑hours voicemail is available.
Final note
The school will only close when it is not safe or practical to remain open. Every closure decision is made with great care.
