Tip #1: Keep a Routine
First Graders THRIVE on a routine. When they know what to expect and they know that it is always the same there is no arguing or fighting. Below is a modified schedule based on our class schedule. This will be familiar to your child. I did not add times, but each block should be about 15-30 minutes depending on the child. If an assignment is taking longer than 30 minutes I recommend stopping and trying again later or just don't do it and bring it up when we meet virtually.

Tip #2: Make a Learning Space
Give your student a quiet and clutter-free place to work. Allow your child to stand, use a clipboard on the ground or give them a desk. There are lots of ideas online!
Tip #3: Make it FUN and FLEXIBLE
It is going to take some time for your child to get used to. Remember they are only 6 or 7, they can really only focus for about 15 minutes at a time, so keep activities short and break them up with a fun "Brain Break" like GoNoodle or outdoor play!
Learning is really done all day long. You can take a simple lunch routine and turn it into math with measurement and counting. You can combine PE with sight word fun by creating a relay race. Make the activities work for your family!
Tip #4: Use and Enforce "CLASSROOM RULES"
In class when students follow the classroom rules they get " class money". When they complete work with focus and efficiently they get a "class money". If we get to be back in the classroom we will gladly accept any "bucks" handed out at home. However, in the chance that we do not get to come back to school I recommend making your own rewards system. They can be turned in for whatever your child enjoys, screen time, craft supplies, Pokemon cards, etc.
