It is recommended that all families interested in transitioning to a middle school after fifth grade RL select an Open Enrollment choice. Del Paso Manor is currently your child's homeschool. If your child does not qualify for Churchill IB, they will be placed in the sixth grade here at DPM. Please consider selecting an alternative school for placement, to ensure they have a middle school spot for next year.
This week marks the halfway point of the first trimester. Yesterday I met with each student to check-in regarding AR goals and plans moving forward. The purpose of AR this year is for students to learn how to set goals and see themselves are readers. Please check-in with your child regarding their AR goal and plan.
For the past eight weeks our class has been working on developing stamina for writing. Students have been a Writer's Notebook discussion assignment to complete at home with you. I have provided a copy of the assignment for you to review. Once your child has discussed the questions and shared their notebook with you, please return the assignment with a signature. This assignment is due Friday, October 14th.
I am excited to share that our former RL teacher, Mr. LaMarr will be joining us starting tomorrow for Science enrichment. He popped into our classroom last Thursday to get to know the class and to get them excited about science. Mr. LaMarr will be joining us for 75 minutes every Thursday during the month of October and November. Special thank you to RLBC for funding this awesome opportunity!
I want your child to be successful in school and that means supporting and encouraging their whole development. While excelling in academics is important, children also need skills to take on learning challenges, making good decisions, manage strong emotions, and get along with others. Next week our school will be kicking off Red Ribbon month by focusing on antibullying curriculum in the classroom. We will be going through a series of lessons to support positive social emotional development.
Have a wonderful week!
Sincerely,
Joann Darrow
