Course Description: Math 3 is the third of three courses in Common Core Mathematics. Together, the Math 1, 2 and 3 courses provide a significant base of broadly useful mathematics for all students. Content is integrated so that each year students deepen their understanding of Algebra, Functions, Statistics, Probability, Geometry, Trigonometry and Discrete Mathematics. These courses emphasize mathematical modeling, which allows students to experience mathematics as a means of making sense of data and problems that arise in diverse contexts. They also serve to make mathematics more accessible to all students through review of previous concepts along with challenging students to think on a deeper level. Technology is a critical part of the learning process and will be used frequently. This curriculum promotes active learning and teaching that is centered on collaborative investigations.
Course Outline: Lessons will cover content (vocabulary), communication(listening, speaking, reading and writing skills), culture(understanding of cultural differences and the ability to communicate respectfully), language structure (ability to communicate from single word responses to the forming of complete sentences and at more advanced levels, the ability to have extended discussions), and settings (appropriate language dependent on setting). The target language will be taught based on the adopted common core state mathematics standards which can be found here.
