February is CTE Month!
Career and Technical Education month is a nationally recognized public awareness campaign recognizing the importance of workforce preparedness and value of teaching and learning skilled trades. We are PROUD of the work that we do every day at SRTC! With 640 students from eight area schools immersed 21 different programs ranging from Health Occupations to Architecture, Cosmetology, IT & Networking and beyond: we're celebrating students' academic achievements, lowering the workforce skills gap, reducing dropout rates and building a better economic future. We're happy to share a look into the daily life of a student at SRTC with our regional school community!
SRTC Director, Matt Petermann represented the Sanford Regional Technical Center at the Maine State House Hall of Flags in Augusta to kick-off CTE month. He met with state and local legislators and government officials and proudly displayed student made products, items from some of our programs and videos of our school. Check out this article about the event from the Maine DOE Fostering the Future

Celebrating CTE Month with our first ever SPIRIT WEEK!
The competition was FIERCE as students pulled out all of the stops decorating themselves and their classrooms in a battle of flannel and flair looking to earn the bragging rights of being the winners of SRTC Spirit Week 2024. Officer Michael "Tipper" Thornton and his crew took a strong lead with Mondays "Proud to be CTE" theme and the bar was officially set! Law Enforcement took the trophy for the AM session in a landslide, but in a dead lock battle for the PM session it was the Academy of Business who proved victorious after a close 1% defeat of the Law Enforcement PM group. In the end it all came down to attendance! These groups will now hold the coveted SRTC Spirit Week trophy graciously designed and fabricated by Gavin Ericson of the Engineering Application with Robotics Program. We're looking forward to making this a yearly tradition at SRTC (which should give Tipper just enough time to get all of the boa feathers and glitter cleaned out of his classroom)!

Lights... Camera... ACTION!
SRTC Hosted 1300+ Sophomores from Kennebunk, Marshwood, Massabesic, Noble, Sanford, Traip Academy, Wells and York High Schools over the course of 2 weeks. These students signed up for tours of SRTC to learn more about programs of interest and witness first hand a day in the life of a student at SRTC, prior to making their decision to apply. Between hosting our sophomore visitors, we also opened our doors for an Admissions Open House. This was a great opportunity for the those prospective students to bring their families along to tour classroom & lap space and learn more about dual enrollment opportunities and certification options available at SRTC. And boy did they turn out! Over 500 visitors came through our doors in just under 2 hours for this event.
We would like to extend a BIG THANK YOU to our amazing student ambassadors who volunteered their time during and after school to join us at the presentation assemblies and assisted their instructors at open house, interacting with guests and promoting their programs. These students are the heartbeat of SRTC and we're so proud to call them ours!
