Table Updates
Google has made some long awaited updates that will make it easier to edit tables.
Here's what has changed:
Pin a table header row to repeat on each page
Designate that a row should not be split across pages
Quickly add, and arrange columns and rows
Sorting tables to better organize data
Quickly insert column or row
Use a new table sidebar to manage table properties (this feature will be available in the next few days).
Pin a row as a header to repeat on each page
You can now pin one or more rows in a table so they repeat at the top of each page the table appears on. Pinning a row lets you see column headers for tables that span across multiple pages. Click in the row and find the 'pin' button on left side of table.
Rearrange columns and rows
Google has made it easier to rearrange columns and rows. Simply click in the column or row you want to move to a new location and locate the move button to click and drag the column or row to a different location.
Sort tables to better organize data
Now you can sort the rows of your tables. If you have a pinned row/s as a header at the top they will remain at the top of your table and not be impacted by the sort.
Hover in the top row of the column you want the table to be sorted by
Click on the sort tool and choose ascending or descending
Prevent row data from spanning across pages
You can prevent a row from spanning across a page break. This allows you to keep important content together so it won't be missed on the next page.
Place cursor in the row where you want text to stay together (not span across pages)
Click on the Format menu, choose Table, Table Properties, uncheck Allow row to overflow across pages, Click OK
Quickly Insert Columns or Rows
You can now easily insert a column to the right or a row below the current column or row.
Simply click on the plus symbol that appears when you hover in the left margin or in the top row.
