Hello everyone, my name is Juan Javier Zavala and I am the TRACE teacher for Cherokee Point TRACE.  I have been teaching for just over 20 years.  I have taught Preschool, Special Education, Middle School and Physical Education.  I was born here in San Diego and raised in Tijuana, Mexico.  I went to school at St. John’s Episcopal, Sacred Heart in Coronado and St. Augustine High School.  I played football, baseball, basketball and tennis at St. Augustine and I went on to play some football and baseball at San Diego State University where I earned my bachelor’s degree and a few years later I earned my master’s degree in Special Education at National University.  I have been happily married to an amazing fellow Special Education teacher, Kristin Zavala and we are the proud parents of our incredible 10-year-old boy, Andrew Zavala.  Our family circle is completed by our two golden retrievers, Treasure and Danger.
