Our 9th grade students recently took their learning beyond the classroom and into the real world with a field experience to La Jolla Cove and Children’s Pool Beach. During their visit, students participated in guided tours of local lifeguard towers, where they learned firsthand about ocean safety, coastal hazards, and the critical role lifeguards play in protecting the public. As they explored the coastline, students observed environmental conditions, analyzed signage and safety measures, and took detailed notes on user experiences at the beach. This immersive experience is directly connected to their Code for the Coast project, where they will apply their observations to design an innovative water safety app, aimed at improving beach safety and accessibility. By combining real-world research with creative problem-solving, students are developing both their analytical and empathetic thinking skills—bringing learning to life in a meaningful and impactful way.
What an unforgettable chapter for the Globetrotters Travel Club! This Spring Break, 24 intrepid adventurers traded the everyday for the extraordinary, embarking on a 10-day odyssey through the emerald landscapes of Ireland and Scotland.
Our journey was a masterclass in time travel. We walked the hallowed halls of castles and palaces, stood beneath the vaulted ceilings of ancient churches, and felt the weight of history beneath our feet. From the whispered legends of the 1600s to the chilling depths of a subterranean ghost tour in Scotland, we didn't just see history—we breathed it. The trip was a "veritable feast for the senses." We navigated the complex tapestry of the UK’s past, absorbing stories of war and peace, kings and queens, and the enduring spirits of artists and rebels. We tasted the world through delicious international flavors and felt the bracing salt spray as we sailed across the North Channel on a glorious ferry ride between two iconic lands. For those who kept their eyes, ears, and minds open, this wasn't just a vacation—it was a soulful immersion into the heart of the British Isles. What an incredible journey we shared!

We are nearly 2 years in since the Clairemont Pool shut down and progress on reopening has been slow. The good news is that the new construction is slated to be completed by late September. The bad news is that the City's budget deficit is putting the pool at risk of not receiving enough funding to hire a manager and staff to run the facility. This would further prolong the Clairemont Pool's reopening, leaving our CHS teams without a home pool indefinitely.
To help us put pressure on the city to fully fund and reopen the Clairemont pool, please take a few minutes to fill out this survey to voice your concerns. The more community voices, the more likely we will see action!

I would also like to encourage you to reach out to the District 2 City Counsel to directly express your concerns. Contact information:

A few key points to write or call about:
The City has closed this pool for nearly 2 years.
This coastal community has experienced 2 seasons of missed swimming lessons, water safety, etc.
The funding to rehab the pool is already being spent.
Staffing the pool in FY26-27 is important to relieve this community of a lost recreational resource for nearly 2 years.
