Clairemont High School is currently recruiting business and community mentor volunteers who would like to give their time and share their wisdom to our 11th grade students and we need your help! The mentor application window is now open and will close on October 6.
Commitment: Mentors make a one meeting per month commitment from October to May (8 meetings)
Dates and Times: All mentor sessions are on the 2nd Thursday of each month. Sessions are 80 minutes in length including mentor announcements and preparation prior to meeting with CHS juniors. Session times are specific to our CHS Academy Pathways. Mentors are welcome to volunteer with any group of students, regardless of industry background as the career interests of our students are varied.

12:30 - 2:00 pm - Business Academy and Medical Academy Students

Our capstone experience for 12th graders is an internship field experience that lasts approximately 12 weeks and allows students to leave campus to work for 7-10 hours per week. Students participate in the program through a for-credit course called Career Pathway Internships, and are prepared and monitored by the program director, Ms. Jeanne Cantwell (jcantwell@sandi.net).
Deadline to register and request an intern for fall semester is September 23, 2022 (Intern Request Form Fall 2022)
Our intern Interview Fair and Supervisor Orientation is September 29, 2022 - supervisors come to the school library and interview potential candidates during scheduled times.
55 student interns (12th graders) can begin working October 10, 2022.
Internships are 11-12 weeks long for a minimum of 7 hours per week (up to 10 hours/week) Internships are typically unpaid, although paid internships are always welcome.

The CHS Football and Cheer squad teamed up with the Circle of Friends for their pre-game tunnel run at the football game on September 16th.
The PSAT will be administered @ CHS on Wednesday, October 18th.
The PSAT is free for all 11th graders.
If additional exams are available, the cost for 9th & 10th graders is $18.

CHS is looking for parents to serve on our ELAC for the 2022-2023 school year. If you or someone you know would be interested in serving on our ELAC, please use the form below to make your nomination. As soon as the ballot has been created, CHS parents will have the ability to select a parents to represent them on the ELAC for the next two years.

If a student has any of the symptoms on the list, please keep and isolate your student at home and use Self-Reporting Tool Link to report the illness. Someone from SDUSD illness and COVID follow-up team will contact you directly. They will go over the specific requirements of how long to stay home and COVID testing options.
*If your student has a chronic pre-existing condition that causes these symptoms, your student may come to school if a “Certification of Chronic Medical Condition” form is on file. Available in the CHS Health Office.
* Free COVID home tests are available in the CHS Health Office.
* New permission for this school year is necessary to test at school routinely or if sick in the health office. Use the primary health app.
STUDENTS: Students can log in using their Student ID # and password.
PARENTS: It is imperative that you stay on track with your child's grades, and Powerschool is the easiest and best way to do so. Before trying to create an account, please request a Parent Portal letter from Clairemont High School Site Technician, Mr. Steve Durham (sdurham@sandi.net) via email; include your student's full name and Student ID # in the request.

Powerschool has a "having trouble signing in" link directly on the PowerParent portal. You are encouraged to follow these steps first to reset your password. If you are still having trouble, you may come into the front office or contact our Site Technician, Mr. Steve Durham at sdurham@sandi.net.
Join the CHS Foundation on a guided tour of CHS' own Museum of American Presidency guided by Mr. Fletcher! Join us on Tuesday, September 20, 6:00-7:00 pm on the CHS campus beginning in room 102 ½ for this special event. "One of the country's largest collections of presidential memorabilia isn't in a museum, library or millionaire's mansion, but in an inconspicuous room shared with tutors at Clairemont High School."
After the museum tour, everyone is welcome to stay for the CHS Foundation board meeting at 7:15pm. Bring your great ideas and get involved with Foundation in our mission to Support All Things CHS.

Thursday, September 22nd, from 2 – 4:30 pm, Westfield Shopping Center will be hosting a Hiring and Networking Event at their Mission Valley location. This in-person event is open to anyone interested in learning more about jobs and careers with restaurants and other retailers in Westfield- Mission Valley Shopping Center and is a great opportunity for those considering Culinary and Hospitality as a career. Participants will be able to network with hiring managers. Light refreshments will be provided as well as a raffle for $250 shopping spree at Westfield Mission Valley!

Established in 1947, our Voice of Democracy audio-essay program provides high school students with the unique opportunity to express themselves in regards to a democratic and patriotic-themed recorded essay. Each year, nearly 64,500 9-12 grade students from across the country enter to win their share of more than $2 million in educational scholarships and incentives awarded through the program.
The national first place winner receives a $30,000 scholarship paid directly to the recipient's American university, college or vocational/technical school. A complete list of other national scholarships range from $1,000-$16,000, and the first place winner from each VFW Department (state) wins a minimum scholarship of $1,000.

The Student Start-Up is a student-run business that gives each student the entrepreneurial opportunity in our very own community. Alongside Real World Scholars, a local San Diego based non-profit organization, we will be able to provide the students a program/platform to start and build student-run business, while developing 21st century skills.
Students can choose and develop their own products or services, all while developing relationships with mentors, business professionals, and community partners and exploring concepts such as: marketing, digital media, e-commerce, sales, accounting, and financial literacy.
