STAY INFORMED WITH POWERSCHOOL'S PARENT PORTAL

What is PowerSchool?

PowerSchool is a web-based tool that enhances communication between parents, teachers and students by providing access to student information from home, work, or from any remote location with Internet access. PowerSchool allows students and parents to easily access their grades, report cards, progress reports, schedules, attendance, and allows parents to update their contact information as well as emergency contacts, and more.

What do I need to login?

STUDENTS:

Students can log in using their Student ID# and password.

PARENTS:

It is imperative that you stay on track with your child's grades, and Powerschool is the easiest and best way to do so. Before trying to create an account, please request a Parent Portal letter from Clairemont High School Site Technician, Mr. Steve Durham (sdurham@sandi.net) via email; include your student's full name and Student ID# in the request. Once you receive the letter from Mr. Durham,:

  2. Click on the button labeled "Create Account."

  3. Enter the parent/guardian account information. Each account must have a unique email address and username.

  4. Create a password.

  5. Enter the Access ID and Access Password for each student you'd like to add to your account from the letter(s).If you have students at other District schools, that school can provide you the Access ID and Password as well.

  6. Take note of your username and password that you have created, because you will need them to log in to the Powerschool portal once you click on "Enter."

**Please note** The Access ID is not the same as your child's student ID**

Help yourself to instructions to update your email and contact information in Parent Portal. (This information can also be found on our school website under the “Parent” tab by clicking on “PowerSchool"

I forgot my password. What should I do?

Powerschool has a "having trouble signing in" link directly on the PowerParent portal. You are encouraged to follow these steps first to reset your password. If you are still having trouble, you may come into the front office or contact our Site Technician, Mr. Steve Durham at sdurham@sandi.net.

FRESHMEN ORIENTATION WELCOME EVENT

Last week CHS hosted our Freshmen Orientation Welcome Event. Incoming 9th graders had the opportunity to meet their teachers, tour the campus, play some games, and start building relationships with their classmates. Students also received their academy t-shirt and took a picture with their new classmates! View the highlight video and photos.

Parents and families participated in a Freshman Parent Welcome Meeting on campus in the auditorium, where they had a chance to meet the admin team in person, hear about all CHS has to offer, and learn how to get connected.

For those parents who were unable to attend, a copy of the Parent Presentation can be viewed HERE.

STUDENT LAPTOPS

All incoming 9th graders who attended a San Diego Unified school last year are to return their District provided laptop and power cord to the CHS library. They will then be issued a new District provided laptop to be used during their time at Clairemont High School. All upperclassmen should continue to use the District laptop that was provided to them last year. Students who are not only new to CHS but new to San Diego Unified will also pick up a District provided laptop at the library during regular school hours.

CLAIREMONT COMMUNITY OF SCHOOLS (CCoS)

Clairemont Community of Schools are meetings in which parents and staff from all 5 feeder elementary schools, Marston and Clairemont High School discuss topics like K-12 alignment, district updates, enrollment, marketing and other items brought forth to the committee. The purpose of the Clairemont Community of Schools Committee is to assemble Clairemont Cluster staff, parents and community members to discuss information that will ultimately improve the Cluster’s programs and presence in the Community. Area Superintendents, principals and a SDUSD Board Trustee often attend these meetings.

Each school also identifies a Parent Liaison responsible for attending cluster school PTA meetings and disseminating cluster information to the respective PTA Board (or similar parent group determined by each site). Cluster Parent Liaisons use outreach systems at their respective schools to share news about CCoS work. Parent’s may nominate either themselves or another parent to be added to the ballot and then the parent liaison will be voted on by the Clairemont parent community.

To nominate either yourself or another parent, please use THIS GOOGLE FORM. Once a ballot has been created, parents will have the opportunity to vote on their Parent Liaison.

In order to adhere to the health and safety guidelines set forth by the San Diego Unified School District, the CCoS meetings for the 2021-2022 school year will be held via Zoom. The Zoom link along with the dates and times of the meetings are listed below.

ATHLETICS

WELCOME TO THE ATHLETIC PROGRAM

Dear Clairemont Families,

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the 21-22 athletics school year at Clairemont High School. We are enthralled to be able to have students back in the classroom and engaging in all that Clairemont has to offer. Athletics is an important part of the high school experience and we encourage all students to try out for anyone of our athletic programs.

The vision of Clairemont athletics is to instill certain valuable qualities in our student-athletes. What does it mean to be a CHIEF? Being a CHIEF means that our student-athletes show; Courage, Humility, Integrity, Endurance and Focus. When our student athletes attend other events, play at other venues or host a team on our wonderful campus we want to make sure that our student-athletes understand what it means to represent themselves, their families, and Clairemont High School well.

The coaching staff and myself are looking forward to meeting our incoming 9th graders and supporting their participation in our athletic programs. We will also be looking to the returning student-athletes to lead by example and model the tenets of what it means to be a Chief. Our hope is that with a return to normalcy Clairemont athletics can flourish.

Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year and to Clairemont Athletics.

Sincerely,

CHS Athletic Director, Mr. Alfie Nowak

CHS Player's Creed

It is the mission of the CHS athletics program to teach our student-athletes principles that will guide them for the rest of their lives. CHS athletics isn't just about better athletes, but better people. That is why we are so excited to launch our new CHS Player's Creed (see below). In collaboration with the CHS Athletic Leadership council and various stakeholders, the CHS Player’s Creed was developed to outline what we believe it means to be a CHIEF. Every student participating in athletics at CHS, as well as their parent/guardian will be required to sign the CHS Student-Athlete Contract which states the following:

As a student-athlete at Clairemont High School you have the privilege of being part of a memorable and life changing experience. With this privilege comes great responsibility. Therefore, it is the expectation of the CHS admin team and Athletic Director that all who participate in athletics actively work to model character and integrity of the highest quality in the classroom, on the court/pool/field, and in our community. By signing this contract, you agree to strive to live a life worthy of emulating by exhibiting Courage, Humility, Integrity, Endurance, and Focus in all that you do.

VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS (VAPA)

A THEATRICAL CHANGING OF THE GUARD

To the students, staff and families of Clairemont High School,

I have had an amazing experience with the Clairemont Thespians over the past 4 years, so it is with a heavy heart to share with you that I will not be returning to Clairemont as the Theatre Program Director this fall. I have accepted a teaching position at the San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts, which has been a dream of mine since I began teaching theatre so I could not pass up this opportunity. It was a very tough and emotional decision as CHS has a big piece of my heart. Thank you to all of the students and parents who were involved in our productions - I wouldn't have been able to make it happen if it weren't for your support. Also a very special thank you to Jen Dossett, Laura Berlin, Mary Jane Smith, Heidi Fulton, Principal Williams, and the CHS Foundation for cheering us on along the way.

Luckily, CHS teacher Mrs. Ann Torgersen has graciously offered to step in and run the after school theatre program. She is an awesome educator who has a passion for theatre, so I know the thespians will be in good hands. I am also here to help with the transition to make sure that the program continues running as smooth as possible. I am so grateful for the time that I was able to spend at Clairemont making theatre for the community. I cannot wait to be an audience member at your Fall production! Thank you and I wish you all a great school year.

With appreciation,

THE CHS FOUNDATION

SUPPORTING ALL THINGS CHS

Visit CHSFoundation.info for more information

Hi Clairemont !

My name is Jason Payne and I’d like to introduce myself as the Clairemont High School Foundation president for the ’21-’22 school year. I grew up and went to college in Washington state, and have been living in San Diego and working in the biotech industry for 22 years. Our daughter will be a senior this year at CHS (what?).

In addition to being involved in the Foundation for a couple years, I have enjoyed going to CHS theatre productions, football games, basketball games, and even a couple badminton matches! I was also involved in the mentoring program two years ago, which is a great way for juniors to be exposed to the “real world”.

I have some big shoes to fill, as Colleen Kleege and the board have done a great job the last several years. Luckily, we still have a great team of parents, including past board members. We communicate frequently with Principal Williams and staff to see what is needed. I hope to meet some of you freshman parents at the August 25th event. Also, we are going to host a happy hour at Fast times on Sept 14th. More details will be available on the web site linked below.

The Foundation is a nonprofit (meaning your donations are tax deductible!), and supports all things CHS: clubs, sports, scholarships, staff appreciation, alumni, and whatever you can think of. Another example is the senior yard signs you have seen around town.

Since you are reading this, I will go ahead and ask: would you check out our web site, and be able to donate a few dollars to the Foundation (see PayPal button)? If you are not ready for that, would you add Clairemont High School Foundation to your Amazon Smile account? The web site has other useful info, such as meeting information (open to all), the football sunset dinner fundraiser coming up Sat 14 Aug, and tickets for the ’60-’61 reunion in October:

www.chsfoundation.info

This is a community effort. If you would like to help, sign up on our volunteer page and we will let you know when opportunities arise. If you have special skills (photography, catering, contacts for silent auction items, etc.) or particular passions you may add that to the comments section:

https://clairemonthsfoundation.weebly.com/volunteer-opportunities.html

Thank You and Go Chiefs!

Jason Payne
