SHOUT OUTS & SCHOOL INFO

A FAREWELL FROM PRINCIPAL WILLIAMS

Dear CHS students & families,

I am writing to share with you that I will not be returning this year as the principal of Clairemont High School. This has easily been the most difficult decision of my professional career but after much prayer and thoughtful consideration, I know in my heart that it is the right one.

When I interviewed for the principal position three years ago, I was asked if there was anything I was nervous about. My answer is the same today as it was then; ensuring that I remain a husband and father first and a principal second. And while I would like to think that I did my best to keep my priorities in order, I know that there were many days that CHS got my first fruits and my family was asked to be ok with the leftovers. As my wife and I prepare to welcome our 7th child into the world on September 6, I simply cannot continue to ask her to do most of the heavy lifting on her own. As a result, I have accepted a position in Carlsbad Unified to work closer to my home in Vista and ultimately be a more present and intentional husband and father.

I recognize that with the start of the school year just a week away, this announcement comes at an incredibly difficult time. I was hopeful that a decision could have been made sooner but unfortunately that just wasn’t the case. Please know that I am fully committed to doing anything and everything I can to support you all through this transition and ensure a strong opening to the school year. I will be working closely with Associate Principal Hoffman and Associate Principal Johnstone to make sure that my role during this transition is a support to their leadership. I can think of no better people to lead Clairemont through this time than AP Hoffman and AP Johnstone.

High School Superintendent, Dr. Erin Richison has posted the principal vacancy and will support AP Hoffman and AP Johnstone in leading the community through the process of identifying the next principal of Clairemont High School.

Clairemont has been my home for the past five years and I will be eternally grateful to each and everyone of you for allowing me the privilege of serving as your principal. As a father of 6 (soon to be 7) it is not lost on me the trust you as parents placed in me and my staff each and every day to provide your children with the education they deserved. Thank you for your kindness and support.

With all the love and respect I have for each and every one of you,

Ethan Williams

FRESHMEN WELCOME EVENT

CHS would like to formally invite all incoming 9th grade students to our CHS Freshmen Welcome event on Wednesday, August 24 from 3:00 - 7:00 pm beginning in the CHS Gymnasium. The event will provide students an opportunity to meet their teachers, tour the campus, play some games, and start building relationships with their classmates. Students will also receive their academy t-shirt on this day! Check out the video from last year’s event HERE.

Families: We have something special for you on this same day, too! Beginning at 5:15 pm on Aug 24, there will be a Freshman Parent Welcome Meeting on campus in the auditorium, where parents can meet the admin team in person, hear about all CHS has to offer, and learn how to get connected.

The entire event will conclude with students, parents, and staff gathering all together for a free sunset BBQ dinner on our beautiful CHS football field from 6:00 - 7:00 pm (did you know we have an ocean view?). During this time, parents, freshman, CHS Student Ambassadors and teachers will have a chance to connect and get pumped for the next four years.

You will NOT want to miss this exciting first meet and greet. Please be sure you RSVP using the link below and let us know how many people to expect. We are hoping ALL freshmen students and families attend.

BACK TO SCHOOL PREP DAYS

With the start of the 2022-2023 school just a few short days away, Clairemont High School would like to invite all students to campus next week to receive their class schedule, check out textbooks and instructional materials, get their assigned locker (Students must provide their own combination lock. Locks will be sold at CHS during this event.), and purchase gym clothes and Clairemont gear (if needed). In order to limit line length, we ask that students and families come during the assigned times listed below. If, however, you are unable to make your designated time, you may come during any of the times below. Please note that students with incomplete enrollment packets will be unable to pick up schedules, textbooks, etc. until the enrollment packet has been completed. As a result, it is important for parents to attend to ensure enrollment packets have been completed. Students and families should park in the main parking lot and then make their way to the lunch quad where they will begin by picking up their schedule.

Representatives from ASB, Foundation, various athletic programs and clubs will be present in order to provide you with all of the information you will need to have a great year as a member of the Chieftain Family! Please stop by each of these tables to ensure that you stay informed and become involved on campus.

SCHEDULE CHANGE REQUESTS

Students who wish to discuss their schedule with a counselor will be asked to complete a counseling appointment request form. The counselors go to great lengths to ensure that students are enrolled in courses that will help them achieve a timely and meaningful graduation. At this time, counselors will be prioritizing schedule change requests that are made due to either:

  • New enrollees without a schedule

  • Hole in schedule (missing a period)

  • Double-booked class

  • Already took and passed a course

  • Incorrect leveling of course

SCHEDULE CHANGE REQUESTS

As a reminder, ID photos will be taken during the first week of School:

  • Freshmen & Sophomores Monday, August 29, 2022

  • Juniors & Seniors Friday, September 2, 2022

The date of a make-up picture day will be communicated in a future SWAG newsletter.
