New Wrestling Head Coach
New Wrestling Head Coach
Lake Needham, 26 year old Clairemont native, has lived and breathed wrestling his whole life. Starting at age 8, he was competing at state and national levels, being a 2x Greco-Roman California state finalist. Currently he’s enrolled in his last semester at Arizona State University where he’ll be graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Digital Audiences.
Off the mat, he’s a husband and father of two. He and his wife share a passion for creating music and have been producing Christian Pop Music for the last 3 years.
Blue and Orange runs deep through the Needham Family tree. Lake’s father wrestled for Coach Knuppel at Clairemont from 1985-1989 when the team won multiple CIF titles.
Coach Lake share, “Clairemont Wrestling is no stranger to success. Look inside the gym and you’ll see banners full of CIF and league titles. This rich history gives us deep roots to grow upon. My goal for the program is help develop all of our athletes into leaders on and off the mat by living out our core values. First and foremost it’s important for our athletes to do their best, have fun and grow a love for the sport. Secondly we want to create an environment where our athletes think positively, encourage others and are grateful for the opportunity to compete. Last but not least, we are here to win CIF, State and National titles. I’m honored to be a part of the incredible history here at Clairemont Wrestling and I’m excited for what the future has in store.”

GOAL: Raise $5,000+ in donations
WHY: To complete the project for the improved quality, safety, upkeep and to meet the requirements for CIF competition.
SCOPE of this project includes:
Add a 3rd court per CIF guidelines
Dig out the existing courts to the correct depth and dimensions
Re-orient the direction of the courts from East/West to North/South so no player is looking directly into the afternoon sun
Concrete barrier to replace wood barrier around the courts
Drainage and weed barriers
3 sets of professional poles for the nets
300 tons of USA VOLLEYBALL Sand
In addition to the construction project, funding is needed for:
Storage sheds
Nets between courts
Other facility and spectator enhancements around the courts
and more

For those of you who are new to Clairemont, welcome to the CHS Family!
I would love to introduce you to our Travel Club- The Globetrotters. CHS Globetrotters 2.0 was created in order to provide educational travel opportunities to our high school students. We are a community of travelers, explorers and creators, founded on the ideas of sharing, wondering, and personal exploration of the world. Educational travel exposes students to new people, places, and cultures which in turn expands their knowledge of the world and their knowledge of themselves which is why I’m thrilled to bring this opportunity to your family and our community.

As a club we will be holding monthly meetings during lunch-location and dates TBD. I will send out an invite to the first club meeting the 2nd week of school.
I do want to emphasize that we are a club on campus, the CHS Globetrotters, and with that said we are going to fundraise from now until our trip to defray costs. The more active our students are with these efforts, the cheaper the trip will be for them- WIN WIN.

Also, each student does receive a personal online fundraising page- it is not unlikely for a student to raise 50% of their trip by merely posting and socializing the page to all of your relatives and friends. The application for Discover UC San Diego Fall 2024 is now available to our partners only. We will be offering the following online college credit courses:
CSE XSD 6 - Introduction to Computer Science and Object-Oriented Programming Python
ETHN XSD 1 - Land and Labor
LTSP XSD 2D - Intermediate/Advanced Spanish for Bilingual Speakers
MUS XSD 20 - Exploring the Musical Mind
SIO XSD 20 - The Atmosphere
All applications will be reviewed after the deadline. Students will be notified of their status prior to the program. Students are not required to pay a fee to apply or take courses (if accepted). These are all online courses and information on each one is built into the application, including any times for live sessions. Please refer to the application for more information.
Do I get college credit for Discover courses?
Discover UC San Diego courses provide lower division credit. The courses are UC/CSU/CC transferable, and students will earn 4 quarter units at UCSD.Is this free for students?
Yes, but only to our partnered schools.

Students and parents/guardians please review PowerSchool regularly to make sure the attendance record is correct. Over the past few weeks we have had many students out due to the flu. Some of those absences still need to be called in by a parent/guardian and excused as illness. To clear an attendance, follow the instructions under Reporting an Absence on our CHS Attendance Page.

STUDENTS CAN NOT COME TO SCHOOL WITH THE FOLLOWING SYMPTOMS.
They will be sent home for any of the following, and be asked to take a COVID test and follow the San Diego County Health Guidelines.
Fever with or no chills > 100.0F
Cough*
Shortness of breath
Nasal congestion/Rhinorrhea (Runny Nose)*
Sore Throat
Nausea/Vomiting/Diarrhea*
Fatigue*
New Loss of Taste/Smell
Headache*
Muscle/Body Aches*
Poor Feeding or Poor Appetite*
If a student has any of the symptoms on the list, please keep and isolate your student at home and use Self-Reporting Tool Link to report the illness. Someone from SDUSD illness and COVID follow-up team will contact you directly. They will go over the specific requirements of how long to stay home and COVID testing options.
*If your student has a chronic pre-existing condition that causes these symptoms, your student may come to school if a “Certification of Chronic Medical Condition” form is on file. Available in the CHS Health Office.
* Free COVID home tests are available in the CHS Health Office.
* New permission for this school year is necessary to test at school routinely or if sick in the health office. Use the primary health app.
California Local Educational Agencies (LEAs) are required to post the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) School Guidance Checklist and the COVID Prevention Plan online. San Diego Unified has made these documents available for public review HERE.
