CIF and San Diego City Conference recognizes 11th & 12th grade student-athletes with +3.0 GPA
Congratulations Chieftain Athletic Scholars!
Four CHS Spring Sports teams have been honored with the distinction of being the All Academic Team for the City Conference (competing with over 20+ Schools).
Congratulations to the student-athletes on the following teams: Boys Golf, Softball, Boys Swim, and Boys Track & Field.
The purpose of the All Academic Teams and San Diego Section Scholars is to honor students who excel not only athletically, but academically as well.
All Academic Teams honor the teams in each varsity sport that compile the highest, combined unweighted grade point average in their region of the CIF San Diego Section. In each of the conferences, the section selects one varsity team, in each sport, from each of the eight conferences with the highest team GPA (unweighted).

At the end of each season, San Diego City Conference coaches meet to recognizing athletes for their outstanding performance. Below are the CHS athletes that received 1st / 2nd All-League and League Athlete of the Year recognition.
The Clairemont High School Badminton team worked hard this year and ended with a record of 8-2, losing only to eventual league champion Crawford High School. Coming in second in league gave us a spot in the CIF tournament. We lost to Mira Mesa in the first round, but it was a great effort and a great experience to compete at that level. These athletes excelled in their individual and doubles categories as well. Dillon Drumel took 1st place in the league Men’s Individual category and 1st place in the league Men’s Doubles category with teammate Rick Timothy. Samantha Fisher came in 3rd for league Women’s Individuals. Dillon Drumel was selected as the City League Badminton Male Athlete of the Year. Kennedy Lin & Samantha Fisher qualified for CIF as a women’s doubles pair and Dillon qualified in the men’s individuals category.
Another highlight of the season was the Rookie tournament. Freshmen Vyna Ong and Samantha LeFevre came in second in women’s doubles…and they had never played competitively together. Freshman Andre Miller also played in the tournament and advanced deep into the men’s individual bracket. We look forward to big things from them in the upcoming seasons!
The 21 students that made up the 2025 Badminton team were a great group of athletes and teammates.
The Boy’s Tennis Team wrapped up its final match during Division III Playoffs against Fallbrook High School. Although our Chieftains lost the match against The Warriors our players had many successes to be proud of. This year’s team was comprised of five returning Sophomores and eight incoming Freshmen and despite being very green in terms of skill level and match experience, our players ended placing second in City League Matches just behind Mission Bay High.
Although the team had many highlights, the standouts this year were having several of our players compete in the semifinals at the end of season League Playoffs. This included Yosif Shaheen in singles and Omar Rodarte & Rocco Chavez in doubles. Having made it to the semis, gave each of our players a spot in the CIF Individuals tournament at Balboa Tennis Club and although our Chieftains didn’t compete as well as they had hoped, the experience gave each of them the motivation to become more determined to increase their skill levels for next season.
Looking back, this season has been a reset for the Chieftain Boy’s Tennis Team. With the incoming Freshmen gaining experience in their first season and our Juniors gaining increased confidence the 2025-2026 year will be something to look forward to as a team. I would like to share the Player Awards that were celebrated at our end of season banquet.
Most Spirited - Luke Steel
Most Improved - Devan Clements
MVP Doubles - Omar Rodarte & Rocco Chavez
MVP Singles - Yosif Shaheen
Coaches Award - Taj Kew
Fortunately our program will have all returning players next year and with focused commitment and determination, the future looks bright for our Chieftains Boy’s Tennis Team!
CHS Softball played several D1 teams and competed well. Their final record was 13 wins and 11 losses.
The team batting average in 2024 was .239 and this year it was .370, a huge positive adjustment. They had 10 players batting over .300 this season which is a remarkable achievement.
The team had two 1st Team All League players - Mae Silao and Cam Walton - and one 2nd Team All League player - Alexis Benjamin.
Ava Cain was selected for the 2025 Senior All Star game for her hitting and catching.
Overall, it was a fun and enjoyable season and they competed every time we hit the field.
