SHOUT OUTS & SCHOOL INFO

PHASE 1 & 2 REOPENING PLAN ANNOUNCEMENT FROM SDUSD'S LEADERSHIP TEAM

Dear San Diego Unified Family,

Due to ongoing health concerns related to COVID-19 and the safety of our students, staff and community, we have decided to continue with online learning for the majority of students through the first part of the new year. However, appointment-based, in-person instruction will still be available on campus for students with the greatest needs through Phase 1.

The decision to remain online longer than we had hoped will be disappointing to the many students, teachers and others who are eager to be back in the classroom. However, the current spread of the coronavirus in our community makes it unsafe to move forward with Phase 2 of our reopening at this time. We plan to reassess the public health conditions and provide an updated timetable on Jan. 13.

In the meantime, we will continue to provide updated information on our reopening plans on our website. This includes a status dashboard and a complete list of the conditions we are continuing to watch for when it will be safe again to reopen campuses.

We will also continue increasing the number of students participating in the small group instruction, with infant/toddler, early learning, middle school, and high school students to start receiving appointments on Dec. 7. Since October, some 2,000 elementary school students have participated in these appointments.

Everyone looks forward to reuniting students and teachers in classrooms in the new year as quickly and as safely as possible. San Diego Unified has already spent tens of millions of dollars on air filtration, plexiglass desk dividers, hand sanitizer, personal protective equipment and more. Schools will be ready when it is safe and responsible to fully reopen. Unfortunately, that time has not yet come.

Gov. Gavin Newsom warned yesterday of potential drastic new measures at the state level, and, in San Diego County, close to 1,000 new cases have been reported. Hospitalizations have tripled this month. The most difficult stages of the pandemic may yet be ahead of us, but we are confident we will get through this together by remaining vigilant.

Sincerely,

San Diego Unified

WILL YOU MAKE A CHIEFTAIN PLEDGE?

The CHS Foundation is challenging the Clairemont Community to make a Chieftain Pledge and help support the students and staff of CHS.

The Covid-19 crisis is a reminder, in so many ways, of the interconnected, interdependent world we inhabit, and how critical collaboration and creativity are needed to address today’s challenges and support each other. While Clairemont High School remains closed due to Covid-19, and all CHS sports, events and programs are currently on hold, our volunteer work continues to support our amazing students, our fabulous school, and our local Clairemont community - in new, creative and virtual ways. Now, more than ever, we are devoted to our students, their enrichment, and their future success by being prepared to fund grants, sponsorships, scholarships and so much more when the time to reopen our doors arrives! Check back with us often to see what fun activities we have planned during the closure to engage our students and community!

Read more about the Chieftain pledge HERE and on the CHS Foundation Website.

CHS Player's Creed

It is the mission of the CHS athletics program to teach our student-athletes principles that will guide them for the rest of their lives. CHS athletics isn't just about better athletes, but better people. That is why we are so excited to launch our new CHS Player's Creed (see below). In collaboration with the CHS Athletic Leadership council and various stakeholders, the CHS Player’s Creed was developed to outline what we believe it means to be a CHIEF. Every student participating in athletics at CHS, as well as their parent/guardian will be required to sign the CHS Student-Athlete Contract which states the following:

As a student-athlete at Clairemont High School you have the privilege of being part of a memorable and life changing experience. With this privilege comes great responsibility. Therefore, it is the expectation of the CHS admin team and Athletic Director that all who participate in athletics actively work to model character and integrity of the highest quality in the classroom, on the court/pool/field, and in our community. By signing this contract, you agree to strive to live a life worthy of emulating by exhibiting Courage, Humility, Integrity, Endurance, and Focus in all that you do.
