Clairemont wins Lady Chieftains Invitational wrestling tournament!

On December 14th our Clairemont wrestling program hosted the 4th annual Lady Chieftains invitational with 226 female wrestlers from San Diego County. With a seventeen percent increase in participation, the tournament was the largest to-date for Clairemont and one of the largest in San Diego County. Although our Lady Chieftains were not one of the biggest teams in the tournament (we only entered 8 of 14 weight classes), they pulled off a big win by placing 1st over 42 other teams with the five of the top six teams having full or almost full line-ups.

On top of the 1st place win for the team, six of our eight lady Chieftains also had individual placements. Adriana Petkova, Laura Cruz, Wendoly Sepulveda and Gabi Rine all took 3rd place, while Cati Yañez took 2nd place and our girls team captain, Juliana Villa won the 116 lb weight class.

It was the first time our girls have pulled off a win at our very own tournament and is a good sign for this small teams possibilities at making it to the State Championships in February! The team is still looking for more girls to join before the January 15th deadline so if any one is interested come on out and be part of this great group of athletes!

Big Second Half Boosts GWP Over Scripps 19-8

These two conference rivals have gone 4-4 against each other over the past 4 seasons, and the games have been defined by overtime thrillers and low scoring defensive affairs. What started out as another classic defensive struggle quickly turned on its head in the second half as both teams began to light up the score board! But the high octane offense of the Chieftains was... (read more here)

Boys Soccer Comes Up Big

Clairemont High Schoo's boys varsity soccer team continued their dominance over the winter break winning the Grossmont tournament for the first time in the school's history!!! The boys are currently 8-0-1. They are a great group of young men that work hard to model what it means to be a CHIEF both on and off the field. Great job boys!

CHS Player's Creed

It is the mission of the CHS athletics program to teach our student-athletes principles that will guide them for the rest of their lives. CHS athletics isn't just about better athletes, but better people. That is why we are so excited to launch our new CHS Player's Creed (see below). In collaboration with the CHS Athletic Leadership council and various stakeholders, the CHS Player’s Creed was developed to outline what we believe it means to be a CHIEF. Every student participating in athletics at CHS, as well as their parent/guardian will be required to sign the CHS Student-Athlete Contract which states the following:

As a student-athlete at Clairemont High School you have the privilege of being part of a memorable and life changing experience. With this privilege comes great responsibility. Therefore, it is the expectation of the CHS admin team and Athletic Director that all who participate in athletics actively work to model character and integrity of the highest quality in the classroom, on the court/pool/field, and in our community. By signing this contract, you agree to strive to live a life worthy of emulating by exhibiting Courage, Humility, Integrity, Endurance, and Focus in all that you do.

ACADEMY INFO

CHS Internships a HUGE Success!

This semester, 25 12th graders have been working off campus in the community and doing such an impressive job. Read just a few of our industry intern supervisor's own words about their interns:

  • "I wish all our high school interns were as good as Aaron Cayanan and Vanessa Estrada. They are so patient and engaging with our patients. We love the interaction that they have and their professionalism." - Letitia Olais, Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla
  • "I reviewed our interns midterm evaluation and I gave them highest marks. I want you to understand that I don’t give high marks very easily but with these two gentlemen, I had to give them high marks because they do such a great job." - Carl Richardson, Shop Foreman at Mossy Toyota
