CHS HOSTING THE PSAT FOR ALL JUNIORS
Dear Clairemont High School students and families,
Thank you for your patience while we prepared for the PSAT/NMSQT exam on January 26, 2021. This is a completely voluntary exam and the official version is not offered online. PSAT stands for Preliminary Scholastic Assessment Test, or a practice exam for the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT). NMSQT stands for National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, or an entrance exam to qualify for a variety of scholarships. For details, please visit https://www.nationalmerit.org/
Under the current stay-home orders, SDUSD high schools are allowed to continue with appointment-based services and the exam falls under that category. We are offering this option to any interested juniors, however, this exam is NOT required. The exam will be held outdoors on the CHS football field in order to maintain health and safety guidelines. Masks will be required at all times for both students and test proctors.
ACTION REQUIRED: If you have not yet completed the following survey we sent out earlier, please do so now. Your response to this survey is your "registration" for the exam - meaning, we will plan for all students who respond "yes" or "maybe" to test. If you do not respond or respond "no", we will NOT be able to accommodate you on exam day.
- English survey = https://tinyurl.com/PSAT2021english
- Spanish survey = https://tinyurl.com/PSAT2021espanol
In the next two weeks, we will place students into small groups to safely bring to campus and will notify students about their specific arrival time. Students will need to wear masks the entire time while on campus and immediately leave campus after completing the exam. At no time will students be allowed to gather in groups on campus, even while masked. For details, please review these slides: https://tinyurl.com/PSAT2021students
Questions? Please contact ramato@sandi.net
COMMON QUESTIONS:
What safety precautions are in place?
We have planned with the county health department and district nursing, facilities and leadership to ensure a safe testing environment. For details, please review these slides: https://tinyurl.com/PSAT2021students
I’m not comfortable testing in person but want to practice for the SAT. Are there other options?
YES! In addition to Khan Academy, there are two free practice tests on the CollegeBoard website: visit https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/psat-nmsqt-psat-10/practice/full-length-practice-tests
I want to try for the National Merit scholarship - is this the only option?
NO! Students must complete an application by April & take SAT between March and June. Details are available here: https://forms.nationalmerit.org/alternateentry

ATHLETICS
CHS Player's Creed
It is the mission of the CHS athletics program to teach our student-athletes principles that will guide them for the rest of their lives. CHS athletics isn't just about better athletes, but better people. That is why we are so excited to launch our new CHS Player's Creed (see below). In collaboration with the CHS Athletic Leadership council and various stakeholders, the CHS Player’s Creed was developed to outline what we believe it means to be a CHIEF. Every student participating in athletics at CHS, as well as their parent/guardian will be required to sign the CHS Student-Athlete Contract which states the following:
As a student-athlete at Clairemont High School you have the privilege of being part of a memorable and life changing experience. With this privilege comes great responsibility. Therefore, it is the expectation of the CHS admin team and Athletic Director that all who participate in athletics actively work to model character and integrity of the highest quality in the classroom, on the court/pool/field, and in our community. By signing this contract, you agree to strive to live a life worthy of emulating by exhibiting Courage, Humility, Integrity, Endurance, and Focus in all that you do.
