CHS COMMUNITY FEEDBACK SURVEY ON VACCINE MANDATE

Dear CHS Community,

Since the Board’s decision on Tuesday, September 28 to mandate vaccines for all staff and students 16 and older, I have heard from numerous members of our community about the impact this decision has had on them. As you can imagine, with over 900 students and families and nearly 75 staff members, the responses have varied greatly. However, the one constant has been a desire for their voice to be heard. As I watched the Board meeting last Tuesday, I noted that nearly 1,600 families and community members had signed up to give public comment. Obviously, with a group that large, it simply isn’t feasible to hear from everyone. However, I can only imagine how frustrated those who had carefully crafted their heartfelt messages must have felt when they realized they would not have an opportunity for their voice to be heard. This was a great reminder to me that as your principal, I must do everything in my power to provide students, families, and staff the opportunity to share how the decisions we make impact our community. As a result, I would like to offer you the opportunity to share with the CHS admin team (and the SDUSD Board of Education, SDUSD Leadership Team, and CA Governor Gavin Newsom, if you choose to do so) your thoughts on how this vaccine mandate is impacting you and your family. Respondents will have the opportunity to remain entirely anonymous or share their contact info for further follow up. Responses will only be shared with outside entities (i.e., the Board of Education, District Leadership, CA Governor, Gavin Newsom) at the request of the respondent.

Bryant H. McGill once said, “One of the most sincere forms of respect is actually listening to what another has to say.” While many aspects of this unprecedented time may be outside my control, what I will always offer the Clairemont community is a willingness to work side by side for the betterment of our students and an opportunity to ensure your voice is heard. I look forward to your responses and as always, please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns. Have a wonderful weekend.

CLASSES FOR PARENTS THROUGH UCSD COMMUNITY OUTREACH

Research and best practice suggest that meaningful discussions about education require those involved to speak a common language, albeit in different dialects. In appreciation of this precept, Education and Community Outreach through UCSD, offers contextually grounded programming for parents and caregivers under the auspices of Parent and Caregiver Education (PACE). Programming is delivered in English and Spanish without charge to schools, districts and community-based organizations.

PACE workshops are custom designed to attend to the unique needs of audiences in terms of content and delivery (face-to-face, blended/hybrid, and completely online). Each session is about an hour in duration and can be differentiated by age level (pre-kindergarten, elementary, secondary, and postsecondary) or tailored to meet the needs of multiage groups.

Workshops are augmented by short-form videos available for download from the Education Channel at University of California Television (UCTV) and companion guides that may be found at the University of California Professional Development Institute (UCPDI). These resources are also publicly available without cost.

Please use the link below to let us know what workshops you might be interested in.

ATHLETICS

CHS Player's Creed

It is the mission of the CHS athletics program to teach our student-athletes principles that will guide them for the rest of their lives. CHS athletics isn't just about better athletes, but better people. That is why we are so excited to launch our new CHS Player's Creed (see below). In collaboration with the CHS Athletic Leadership council and various stakeholders, the CHS Player’s Creed was developed to outline what we believe it means to be a CHIEF. Every student participating in athletics at CHS, as well as their parent/guardian will be required to sign the CHS Student-Athlete Contract which states the following:

As a student-athlete at Clairemont High School you have the privilege of being part of a memorable and life changing experience. With this privilege comes great responsibility. Therefore, it is the expectation of the CHS admin team and Athletic Director that all who participate in athletics actively work to model character and integrity of the highest quality in the classroom, on the court/pool/field, and in our community. By signing this contract, you agree to strive to live a life worthy of emulating by exhibiting Courage, Humility, Integrity, Endurance, and Focus in all that you do.
