Each year, the San Diego County Chapter of the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge sends 13-15 students from throughout San Diego County (Two from CHS last year) back to our historic Valley Forge campus and Washington D.C. to learn about America. The Spirit of America Youth Leadership Program is a three and one-half day residential conference for high school students. During the program students interact with experts on citizenship, democracy, the judiciary, the political process, and the free enterprise system. The program includes thought-provoking lectures, historical tours, and experiential workshops, all designed to develop leadership skills and deepen an understanding of the rights and responsibilities of engaged citizenship.
11th grade students who have an interest to participate must write a 2-paragraph request using the “Spirit of America” Leadership Program Informational Meeting Application Form indicating why they would be a good candidate to attend the Leadership Conference. This request is due to Associate Principal Hoffman by Tuesday, November 1st at 3:30 pm
Students who turned in an introductory 2 paragraph request to Associate Principal Hoffman by Nov 1st will be invited to attend the informational meeting. The informational meeting will be on Friday, November 4th during lunch in Room 114. Those who attend will be introduced to Freedoms Foundation, the application process, documents required, an essay prompt and the interviews.
Students selected by the FREEDOMS FOUNDATION committee will be invited to a competitive interview before being selected to participate in this year’s Spring trip to Valley Forge and Washington, D.C.
We meet the 3rd Tuesday of the month at CHS in Room 203.
