SENIOR CONTRACTS - DUE: OCT 18th
Thank you to all of the seniors and their parent/guardians who have review and signed the CHS Senior Contract. The purpose of the contract to make sure students and parents/guardians are aware of the important activities, requirements, rules and procedures that are set into place to help guide seniors through this final year at Clairemont High School. Please make sure to turn them into AP Hoffman (mailbox in office) by Tuesday (Oct 18th).
CHECK ATTENDANCE
Students and parents/guardians please review PowerSchool regularly to make sure the attendance record is correct. Over the past few weeks we have had many students out due to the flu. Some of those absences still need to be called in by a parent/guardian and excused as illness. To clear an attendance, follow the instructions under Reporting an Absence on our CHS Attendance Page.
GREAT CALIFORNIA SHAKEOUT
On Thursday, October 20, 2022, San Diego Unified School District, along with other school districts throughout California, will participate in the annual Great California ShakeOut. All San Diego Unified schools and administrative sites will participate in the exercise. The district-wide drill will begin at 10:20 a.m. on October 20th. The purpose of this drill is to test the effectiveness of your Site Emergency Response Plan (SERP) and the district’s ability to notify and maintain communications with all of its sites during a simulated regional event.

STUDENT OPPORTUNITIES
California Dream Act Application: Help Undocumented Students Safely Apply for College Financial Aid
Every year, thousands of students apply for financial aid as they consider their college, university, or training options after high school graduation. While this process is not always easy, it is a critically important one to help students access up to $20,000 in grant aid, depending on which institution they attend, to help pay for postsecondary education or training. Students from undocumented or immigrant backgrounds face additional challenges in this process given their status. However, California has made state financial aid available since 2013 through the California Dream Act Application (CADAA), a state-based application. It is available on the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) Dream Act web page at https://dream.csac.ca.gov/landing. It allows undocumented students to receive state financial aid.
FREEDOMS FOUNDATION at VALLEY FORGE
“SPIRIT OF AMERICA” LEADERSHIP PROGRAM
MARCH 9-15, 2023
VALLEY FORGE CAMPUS, VALLEY FORGE, PENNSYLVANIA
MARCH 9-15, 2023
VALLEY FORGE CAMPUS, VALLEY FORGE, PENNSYLVANIA
Each year, the San Diego County Chapter of the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge sends 13-15 students from throughout San Diego County (Two from CHS last year) back to our historic Valley Forge campus and Washington D.C. to learn about America. The Spirit of America Youth Leadership Program is a three and one-half day residential conference for high school students. During the program students interact with experts on citizenship, democracy, the judiciary, the political process, and the free enterprise system. The program includes thought-provoking lectures, historical tours, and experiential workshops, all designed to develop leadership skills and deepen an understanding of the rights and responsibilities of engaged citizenship.
11th grade students who have an interest to participate must write a 2-paragraph request using the “Spirit of America” Leadership Program Informational Meeting Application Form indicating why they would be a good candidate to attend the Leadership Conference. This request is due to Associate Principal Hoffman by Tuesday, November 1st at 3:30 pm
Students who turned in an introductory 2 paragraph request to Associate Principal Hoffman by Nov 1st will be invited to attend the informational meeting. The informational meeting will be on Friday, November 4th during lunch in Room 114. Those who attend will be introduced to Freedoms Foundation, the application process, documents required, an essay prompt and the interviews.
Students selected by the FREEDOMS FOUNDATION committee will be invited to a competitive interview before being selected to participate in this year’s Spring trip to Valley Forge and Washington, D.C.
