Do I need new fingerprints?
Yes, if you have had a break in service of 1 year or more.
Yes, if you fingerprinted before 2010.
Yes, if your previous fingerprints were for a different agency (must be for SDUSD).
How long is the appointment? Approximately 30 minutes.
How long for results? 4 to 5 weeks.
What is the cost? There is an $84 rolling fee for Live Scan fingerprints.
Your form depends on your volunteer history with San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD):
First-Time SDUSD Volunteer: Complete the New Volunteer Form. (Note: Category D volunteers must be fingerprinted before starting.)
Returning SDUSD Volunteer (Volunteered last year at any SDUSD school): Complete the Returning Volunteer Form.
Past SDUSD Volunteer (Break in service of 1 year or more): Complete the New Volunteer Form. (Note: Category D volunteers must be fingerprinted again due to the gap in service, even if fingerprinted previously.)
Why do I need this tranining?
Education Code 44691 requires that, by July 1, 2026, school districts begin providing training to volunteers upon commencing volunteer services and require the submission of a certificate of completion to be kept on file and updated annually.
Key Updates & Changes
Commencing July 1, 2026, all Category C and Category D volunteers will be required to complete the District’s Mandated Reporter: Child Abuse and Neglect training provided by Vector Solutions. The typical base course duration is approximately 30 minutes.
Category C & D volunteers will be required to successfully complete this course and submit a digital (email, fax, or scanned copy) or print version of their certificate of completion as part of their Volunteer Application (to be maintained at the school site for 3 years along with the Volunteer Application, TB test and background clearance documentation).
