CHS DMP Sophomore Project
Creating a documentary.
Creating a documentary.
Students will choose a topic for a documentary with a specific Point of View. With the 10th grade English argumentative writing component, students must tell 2 sides of the Point of View. For Digital Media this is a 5-7 minute documentary. The reason the time is what it is is due to the submission requirements behind the iVie awards at the end of the year. 1 documentary from each topic will be submitted to the iVies for consideration in the San Diego County competition for best documentaries.
For the 2026-27 Sophomores they can choose either topic: Adopt or Shop in conjunction with the San Diego Humane Society. Or working for the unhoused through Shoreline Compass Point in Pacific Beach. We want to generate a positive perception of those seeking help and trying to better their lives through the Compass Point Resource Center. In both cases students will be asked to pick a point of view and then create an opposite opinion. Other topics can center around human rights for housing, food, immigration or health. Students will have to reach out and find adults who can tell one side of the story or the other. The Humane Society will partner with Clairemont High School but the students will have to find a breader or pet store owner where animals can be purchased. For the Homeless situation, students will reach out to business owners in the community who can describe the negative atributes to having homeless on the streets, or a Caltrans spokesperson who can speak on the encampment clenups and the cost associated with this task.
This Project with the San Diego Humane Society was nominated by the student Directors peers to compete in the iVIE awards for Innovative Videos in Education. The students and volunteers in class, can vote on the most compelling video. 1 video from each topic will be submitted to the iVIES for consideration.
