About Me & The Class

Welcome to English Class! I am so glad you are here and that we have an opportunity to learn together.

Who am I?

I love to teach, especially middle school. Teaching is complex and challenging  because we are all working together as learners, and this makes teaching exciting. I also love to read middle school books and young adult books. There are so many authors living and writing for young people now and we will learn about many of them and read their writing. 

I enjoy so much about reading, whether it is enjoying the thrill of a wonderful story or being taken on a journey of thought and learning, or noticing the amazing craft of writing. Often, when we read in class, we will use our reading to study quality writing. In this way, we will practice our own writing and become better writers ourselves.

It is important to know that writing is not always about publishing. Sometimes we use writing to understand what we are thinking. In class, we will call this writing to think a reader's response, and we will use this type of writing often. We will also write narratives, arguments, informational pieces, and use art and media to enhance our writing.

Overall, my hope is that we have fun and learn together.
