Scholars Overview
San Diego Unified School District’s PrimeTime Scholars Program is a community-based program that provides various learning opportunities to PrimeTime students. Through collaboration with community partners, the program aims to enhance students' critical thinking, self-confidence, and decision-making abilities. PrimeTime students will:
Learn to make evidence-based decisions
Work collaboratively with their peers
Create and solve real world challenges
Participate in rigorous hands-on, project-based learning
Communicate effectively using academic language
Visit, discover and explore various public and community-based organizations, including museums, art, music, and STEM/STEAM.
PrimeTime Scholars offers a diverse range of activities including arts, sports, STEM projects, Language Arts, Math, SEL and educational projects to engage and enrich students' interest.
Participating Schools
All San Diego Unified elementary and middle schools have a PrimeTime Program.
Student Eligibility
UTK- 8th grade students who participate the PrimeTime afterschool program are eligible to attend a PrimeTime Scholar program. Programs vary. Grade levels and programs are decided by each school site's Site Governance Team (SGT). The SGT is a shared-decision making team at each school site, made up of administrators, teachers, parents, classified staff and community members. Families interested in joining their school site SGT, are encouraged to contact their school site front office.

What is the PrimeTime Scholars Program?
The PrimeTime Scholars Program initiative is mandated by the California Education Code. It offers daily academic and enrichment activities for participating students after regular school hours.
What does the academic component of PrimeTime entail?
The academic Component of PrimeTime includes educational and literacy elements such as classroom instruction, tutoring or homework assistance in subjects like language arts, math, history, and science.
Who provides PrimeTime Scholars academic intervention and enrichment?
For academic intervention, district credentialed teachers provide academic instruction during PrimeTime hours. These teachers are assigned based on the identified needs of the participating students. For enrichment, the PrimeTime Academic Partners provide a facilitator to work with students during PrimeTime hours.
How are students identified for academic intervention?
Principals identify students from updated Primetime rosters who are preforming below grade level. Groups are then formed based on students' academic needs for tailored instruction.
What are the student teacher/facilitator ratio for PrimeTime Scholars classes?
Class sizes in PrimeTime academic classes must adhere to specific ratios: 10:1for grades UTK/K and 20:1 for grades 1-8.
How are instructional intervention programs designed for PrimeTime Scholars?
Instructional programs are designed based on identified curriculum areas, objectives and materials to support students learning in alignment with the regular school day.
Digital Lizards of Doom is a novel study for grades 4-6, and taught by an onsite credentialed teacher. This academic intervention program is just one of the many PrimeTime Scholar choices. Programs vary. Please check with your school site about program offerings.
