November 9, 2018:
This week we got started writing our personal narrative essays. Student got to choose if they wanted to write about a time they learned a lesson, or complete a story using The Mysteries of Harris Burdick. This week they mapped out their story arcs and began typing their rough drafts. Next week in class we will learn more about leads and their rough draft will be due on Friday 11/16. They should have plenty of time in class to complete the rough drafts.
November 3, 2018:
On Friday, students turned in their Seedfolks projects and I plan to grade those this upcoming week. This week we will start writing our narrative essays about a time where they learned a lesson. The due date will be the Friday before Thanksgiving break.

Happy Monday!
Last week we finished reading our class novel Seedfolks. This week we are finishing up the project menu, which is due this Friday, November 2. Students have had time to work on the project in class, and will continue to have time in class through Thursday to work on the project. This week we are officially launching our narrative unit, mainly focusing on brainstorming potential topics they could write about.
We have also begun our reading groups, which typically meet twice a week.
October 12, 2018:
This week in class we continued to read Seedfolks, and had tons of time in class to work on the Project Menu, where students choose four project options to work on from a list. We also went to the library on Thursday, where students were encouraged to check out books if they don't have any to read at home. I plan to make another visit in November.
Next week we will continue to work on the Project Menu, and we will also begin our narrative writing unit and reading groups (yay!).
October 7, 2018:
This week in class we continued to read Seedfolks, and next week we will begin working on an art project associated with it. We also discussed what a community is, and how that exists in the novel. Students also met for the first time in their reading groups, where they ranked which books they would like to read as a group.

This week went great! Our sixth grade class is a fantastic class and I can't wait to keep learning with them. This week we did multiple small presentations to get comfortable talking in front of the class. We worked on mini-biographies where they introduced each other to the class. We also began work on the IB learner profile, which we will continue working on next week.
I will be out on Tuesday and Wednesday (my mom is having surgery), so on those days we will continue working on IB learner profile, as well as begin writing a biopoem. I am excited to read the poems when I return! (:
