MMS fully implements an integrated model of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), a set of national science standards for Kindergarten through 12th grade. Bits of each science discipline - Earth Science, Life Science, Physical Science, and Engineering - are included at all three middle school grade levels. The standards, or performance expectations, include three distinct dimensions:

• Disciplinary Core Ideas (DCIs): what students KNOW

• Science & Engineering Practices (SEPs): what students DO

• Crosscutting Concepts (CCCs): how students THINK
