At Mt. Everest Academy, parents are indispensable partners in their children's education, serving as the cornerstone of support and guidance throughout their academic journey. Families play a pivotal role in fostering a nurturing environment conducive to growth and development. As students progress through their educational journey towards independence, the role of parents evolves in tandem, transitioning from direct involvement to more subtle guidance and support. Below are lists of parent and student expectations through the various grade levels that we expect our families to implement to ensure their students' success at our school.

Attend mandatory orientation
Have child attend weekly classes
Follow proper drop-off/pick-up procedures
Supervise child on-campus outside of class time, per school policy
Plan and teach daily lessons
Log in to Google Classroom and Clever regularly
Know student login information and help students log in to district applications
Grade assignments and provide immediate feedback
Create a daily/weekly schedule (consider student input)
Check work samples and properly label headings on all audit papers (first/last, name, month #, school year, subject)
Submit monthly coursework by the due date
Come to your Supervising Teacher for support
Read the weekly “Monday Message” for school events and happenings

Students Should:

Complete school work
Listen to parents and other teachers
Take ownership of each month’s turn-in work
Come to class each week ready to have and have fun!

Students Should:

Create daily/weekly schedule (parent approve)
Communicate directly with teachers
Assemble audit materials for parent check

8-9

Parents should:

Log into PowerSchool with the student
Be guiding students and teaching at home (but academic grading is done by content teachers)
Support students with emailing teachers. By 2nd Semester (8th grade) students take over as lead communicators, cc’ing parents
Ensure students know where to find important resources such as lesson videos on teachers’ websites or other support material or opportunities on campus, such as tutoring and teacher office hours
Monitor student progress at the end of Week 3 – or as appropriate per course
Actively following Google Classroom or Canvas for all classes
Reading the weekly “Monday Message” for school events and happenings

Students Should:

Able to locate and print their own assignment sheets
Make their daily/weekly/monthly schedule
Gather their own work samples/audit pieces
Complete all work assignments according to teacher pacing guides
Take advantage of all resources available as needed, including office hours and tutoring
Log on to student email regularly
Read the weekly “Monday Message” for school events and happenings

10-12

Students should communicate directly with teachers (except for student’s illness/severe injury)
Parent/Guardian CC’d if the student misses class or has an overall grade below C
Teachers work directly with students and include parents if the situation does not improve
Encourage parents/guardians to check Powerschool and teacher websites frequently (recommend weekly)
Both parents and students should be reading the weekly “Monday Message” for school events and happenings
