Science
The following components and events will take place in or through the 8th grade science class:
Lessons:
Case Study/Group work - Using text to gather information and group work to evaluate and present the information on sources of pollution in Air, Water, Land and Energy (February 2023)
Environmental Injustice - Discovering and evaluating modern examples of who is impacted the most by environmental degradation. (February 2023)
Deliverables for Science:
Case Study Slides - Both lessons require students to create a Google Slide to summarize what they have learned. Students will then choose which one to use for their final 8th grade PBL presentation.
Science standards:
M.S-ESS3-4. Construct an argument supported by evidence for how increases in human population and per-capita consumption of natural resources impact Earth’s systems:
Typically as human populations and per-capita consumption of natural resources increase, so do the negative impacts on Earth unless the activities and technologies involved are engineered otherwise
All human activity draws on natural resources and has both short and long-term consequences, positive as well as negative, for the health of people and the natural environment.
Crosscutting Concept - Cause and Effect:
Cause and effect relationships may be used to predict phenomena in natural or designed systems
