Science

The following components and events will take place in or through the 8th grade science class:

Lessons:

  • Case Study/Group work - Using text to gather information and group work to evaluate and present the information on sources of pollution in Air, Water, Land and Energy (February 2023)

  • Environmental Injustice - Discovering and evaluating modern examples of who is impacted the most by environmental degradation. (February 2023)

Deliverables for Science:

  • Case Study Slides - Both lessons require students to create a Google Slide to summarize what they have learned. Students will then choose which one to use for their final 8th grade PBL presentation.

Science standards:

M.S-ESS3-4. Construct an argument supported by evidence for how increases in human population and per-capita consumption of natural resources impact Earth’s systems:

  • Typically as human populations and per-capita consumption of natural resources increase, so do the negative impacts on Earth unless the activities and technologies involved are engineered otherwise

  • All human activity draws on natural resources and has both short and long-term consequences, positive as well as negative, for the health of people and the natural environment.

Crosscutting Concept - Cause and Effect:

  • Cause and effect relationships may be used to predict phenomena in natural or designed systems
