Overview of the School Counselor's Role at Linda Vista Elementary:

Help all students:

• Manage emotions and apply interpersonal skills

• Apply academic achievement strategies

• Learn and apply social emotional skills (i.e. developing healthy identities, identifying and managing emotions, setting and achieving goals, empathy, developing and maintaining healthy supportive relationships, and making responsible decisions)

Some ways counselors will help students gain these skills:

• School-Wide Classroom Lessons

• Short-term individual and/or group psychoeducational counseling

• Collaborating with families/teachers/administrators/community

• Acting as a systems change agent to improve equity and access achievement

• Responding to immediate student emotional challenges

• Referrals for long term support
