Counseling Vision Statement:
Students participating in the Linda Vista Elementary counseling program are kind, inclusive, and inquisitive life-long learners who are confident and prepared to collaborate and create a community that reflects these qualities.
Counseling Mission Statement:
The mission of the school counseling program at Linda Vista Elementary is to provide a counseling program that addresses student academic achievement, social-emotional health, and knowledge of strengths and interests leading to post secondary success. The counseling program will earnestly promote inclusive, kind, and ethical behavior. The counseling program will accomplish this in collaboration with other educators, parents, guardians, and the community, to prepare students to meet the challenges of their global generation.
Overview of the School Counselor's Role at Linda Vista Elementary:
Help all students:
Manage emotions and apply interpersonal skills
Apply academic achievement strategies
Learn and apply social emotional skills (i.e. developing healthy identities, identifying and managing emotions, setting and achieving goals, empathy, developing and maintaining healthy supportive relationships, and making responsible decisions)
Some ways counselors will help students gain these skills:
School-Wide Classroom Lessons
Short-term individual and/or group psychoeducational counseling
Collaborating with families/teachers/administrators/community
Acting as a systems change agent to improve equity and access achievement
Responding to immediate student emotional challenges
Referrals for long term support
