Welcome to the Lewis Middle School Special Education Department
Here at Lewis, we have 7 Mild/Moderate Education Specialists, who teach and support in a variety of ways. We collaborate or co-teach with general education teachers in English, math, science, and history at all grade levels to meet individual students' needs to access the general education environment fully. We also provide targeted support during a Study Skills elective for 6th-, 7th-, and 8th-grade students. Services may be delivered by experienced paraeducators who are integral members of the instructional team. They work alongside and/or under the direction of a certificated educator to support and assist in providing instruction to students.
We currently have two Extensive Support Needs (ESN) classrooms. Functional math, language arts, science, social studies, and life skills are part of their curriculum. Students in the ESN Program may also have the opportunity to participate in general education classes, electives, and community-based instruction, when appropriate.
Students may receive support from related service providers, including Occupational Therapy and Speech and Language Therapy. Our two school psychologists also support students through interventions and assessments.
