Friends of Tecolote Canyon/Tecolote Nature Center: Will provide field trips and guide opportunities giving students hands-on virtual and in-person experiences to explore and understand Tecolote canyon, engage in activities surrounding the preservation of Tecolote canyon reserve, which is right in our own backyard, and to explore the preservation of cultures indigenous to Tecolote canyon and themselves.
USD: Will provide opportunities for adult interactions with students to gain experience evaluating student work and engage in meaningful exploration, assessment, and revision of the science applications involved in the project.
Chesterton Elementary: Will provide opportunity for Kearny students to apply their new knowledge in preservation of Tecolote and indigenous cultures in a mentorship partnership with 2nd and 3rd grade students in the same neighborhood. These opportunities will involve playing the Trading Card game, reading the children’s book, and participating in science applications and activities promoting the preservation of keystone species of Tecolote canyon and using the 3D printed small scale solution to promote preservation of the keystone species in their lives.
Kumeyaay Nation Partnership: Will provide understanding about the importance of the Kumeyaay history and relationship with native plants and animals indigenous to Tecolote Canyon. Will incorporate Kumeyaay teachings into projects to share with Elementary students. Will also promote Tecolote activism to educate, preserve, and restore Tecolote Canyon.
