This year, we are streamlining the volunteer process by moving to an electronic system, making it easier for families to complete the required steps.

To provide students with a safe learning environment and support a variety of volunteer opportunities, San Diego Unified classifies volunteers into different categories. Depending on the volunteer role, specific clearance requirements must be completed. All volunteers are processed annually by the school's Volunteer Coordinator and must complete the required Volunteer Application and Code of Conduct each school year. In addition, TB clearance is required every four years for all volunteers, including field trip chaperones.

Category B Definition: Persons with group exposure who have little or no direct, unsupervised exposure or contact with children, participating in school activities in open and public settings, and with classroom exposure who work with children and are supervised by district staff.
