Edison Counseling Corner - Meet Your Counselor

I have been an Elementary School Counselor for the San Diego Unified School District since 2005. This is my 20th year as Edison Elementary's School Counselor!

I have my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with a Minor in Human Services and my Master of Arts degree in Counseling with a specialization in School Counseling.

I am committed to fostering a supportive and nurturing environment for young learners. I focus on promoting emotional well-being and academic success through the domains of social/emotional, academic, and college/career. This is executed by providing school-wide assemblies and events, classroom lessons, weekly social-emotional lessons, counseling groups, and individual supports. I lead the Student Council and the Student Wellness Ambassadors and develop/facilitate our No Place for Hate activities. I provide essential attendance support to ensure every student has the opportunity to excel. I have also been the School Wellness Coordinator for staff, families, and students for the past 10 years.

When I'm not working, I enjoy reading, cooking and going on adventures with my husband and two children.

Why Elementary School Counselors?

The elementary school years set the foundation for developing the knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary for children to become healthy, competent and confident learners. Elementary school counselors have an impact on these years by implementing a school counseling program and collaborating with school staff, parents and the community to create a safe and respectful learning environment. By providing education, prevention, early identification and intervention, elementary school counselors help their students achieve academic success, develop an understanding of career opportunities and develop social/ emotional skills in response to issues they face.

Elementary school counselors hold a master’s degree and required state certification in school counseling. Maintaining certification includes ongoing professional development to stay current with education reform and challenges facing today’s students. Professional association membership enhances the school counselor’s knowledge and effectiveness.
