ASB's Purpose
Welcome to De Portola Middle School ASB! ASB is a group of student leaders who are representatives for all the students of De Portola Middle School. The central goal of ASB is to promote school pride and spirit and build community. We aim to include all students! Other aspects of ASB include: promoting school activities, events, service leadership, as well as creating positive bonds among all students, staff and our community. Normally this would all be done in person, however we are adapting for this distance learning world!

Calling all artists, we want to see your creativity! You can submit artwork that you photograph, photography, videos, etc. showcasing your artistic creativity! You can create a new piece or submit a piece of art you've already created. You can submit your work under any of the following categories:

We will take all submissions and make a video compilation that will be shared on the principal's message, ASB website, and shared to students through email. Anyone who submits will earn a colorful stylus pen and a tasty treat!

Women's History Writing Contest 3/15-3/25
We will have a Women's History Short Story writing contest beginning March 15th and all stories must be submitted by Thursday 3/25. A panel of ASB members and English and History teachers will review stories and pick out a winner from each grade level: 6th, 7th, and 8th.
Review the writing prompt, guidelines, and rubric below. Then, create a short story on Google Docs. When you're story is complete, submit your story using the Google Form. Contestant Winners will be announced Friday 4/9. Winners will get to pick a prize and their work will be published in the Panther Press!

Save the Earth Awareness Week 3/8-3/12

On Wednesday 3/10, we will have a zoom at 1:30 p.m. where we will introduce our Padlet where we plan to post our participation in our Contribute To Change Month and we will play games with "Save the Earth" themed questions. Let's show the earth how much we care and share ideas about how we can better our planet on Padlet and at our zoom meetup! On Friday 3/12, ASB put the names of anyone who posted for the week on their "wheel of names" and draw a winner to pick a prize. The winners will be announced in the Principal's Message on Monday 3/15.

In honor of Black History Month, we will show the movie Hidden Figures! We will also have an Intermission at around 5:30 p.m. where we will play two rounds of Kahoot and the top three winners of each game can pick a prize. The Kahoot games will be based on Hidden Figures and Black History trivia.
You will receive an email by Friday 2/26 (in the morning) that will give you the login information for Hidden Figures. You have the ability to watch the movie with us at our Movie Night or you can watch on your own and make your own movie night. You will have FREE access to Hidden Figures starting Friday 2/26 through Saturday 2/27 @ 11:59 p.m.

Friday 1/22 : VIRTUAL MOVIE NIGHT 6:00-8:30 P.M.
Virtual Movie Night is Friday 1/22 from 6:00 p.m to 8:30 p.m. We will enjoy the movie Inside Out (click to watch the trailer). This is our culminating event for De Portola's Mental Health Awareness Week! We will also have an Intermission at around 7:00 p.m. where we will play two rounds of Kahoot and the top three winners of each game can pick a prize. The theme of the Kahoots are: Mental Health Awareness & Inside Out. In order to participate in Virtual Movie Night, you will want to join our Zoom at 6:00 p.m.! We will use zoom to watch the movie and use the chat to discuss and react along the way; this is also where we will have our intermission games.
