CHS DMP Freshman Project

At Clairemont High School We work with the USS Midway on the Project Save. CHS along with the USS Midway Education Department partner to tell the stories of the volunteers aboard the USS Midway. From what compels them to volunteer to what challenges has each volunteer overcome to get where they are in life at this moment.

Taking multiple Field Trips over the course of the semester, students get the chance to meet and tour the ship with their specific volunteer. They listen as the volunteer talks about how they have  worked aboard the USS Midway, lessons learned in life and the ship itself. The 9th grade English componenet is narrative writing. This is how we will build out Graphic Novels with the life challenges becomiong our rising action in a plot point. The lessons learned will be part of the resolution for each volunteers individual garphic novel telling their story.
