2023/2024 Student Listening Project
Snapshot
A snapshot helps to tell the story of what we are hearing. We enlarged these onto posters and placed them near the staff mailboxes, along with sticky notes to provide further input. Please scroll down to see specific answers to questions and all the data we collected this year through surveys, sticker charts, focus groups, and empathy interviews.
We began the year with class discussions from UTK to 5th grade, asking students about their vision of a perfect day at school.
How we developed our Listening Project: Using data from the Love and Improvement survey, the Healthy Kids Survey, attendance records, and academic performance, we developed a Listening Project to better understand staff priorities. The Community Schools Committee designed this survey during a full-day session and a series of after-school meetings. They also set a plan to achieve 75 -100% participation.
Who developed our Listening Project: Both certificated and classified staff including teachers (UTK, 4th and 5th English only and Dual-Language), front desk staff, school nurse, counselor, principal, community school's coordinator, district staff, parents, and grandparents.
Engagement Strategy: The survey was available online, with a printed format option. Participation was anonymous for all educational partners. Staff members who completed the survey were asked to email within a week for a chance to win a Starbucks gift card. They were also invited to enjoy free tacos at our Family STEAM Night.
Coding Process: With any open ended questions, themes were pulled from responses.
Who was a part of the coding process: Community Schools Coordinator, district staff, school nurse, parent, principal, community members, and counselor.
Participation Rate: 89% percent of staff responded.
