Pax Romana: 27 BCE- 180 C.E. During this period of about two centuries, the Roman Empire achieved its greatest territorial extent and its population reached a maximum of up to 70 million people. While called the time of Peace, Pax Romana was a time period full of revolts and wars. Rome may have reached its highest level of power, but much of the power derived from conquering and killing anyone who opposed their control. While some in Rome may have prospered during this time, millions of people throughout Europe were violently forced to give up their local autonomy and assimilate into the Roman Empire.
